Family Tree

Proud to be me!  We are going to be looking at our family trees soon and talking about our families.  How many people are there in your family? Do you have photographs of your grandparents or other family members? Do any of your family live far away?  Maybe even in another country? We will be looking at all of these questions so start thinking about how you are proud to be YOU!

SOS for Socks!!

Next week in topic we will be making a start to our puppet sea turtles. These are going to require a single sock from each child!  For convenience and to stop you all from having odd socks left at home, maybe you would like to get together with another parent!!

Topic This Week

Our topic job over the last two weeks has been about the world around us.  We have been looking at the world map and globes to discuss the oceans and lands.
One group have been looking at the world map and finding the North and South Poles, the ocean areas and the land areas in between these and day and night.  Which countries are nearest the middle of the globe/map and are they hot countries or cold countries?

Another group have been making our own beaches, using all kinds of materials to make either stone or sand beaches and we have been thinking about what kinds of things we may find at the beach.
We have also been looking at different video clips and trying to spot the differences when looking at the same place at different times of the day.

POWSA Meeting

The next POWSA meeting will be held at the Poet Laureate on Tuesday 28th January at 7.45pm. All welcome.

Welcome to 2014 Spring term!

Welcome to the first half term of 2014

This half term we are looking forward to a fun packed enthusiastic time!  We will start our topic off with looking at the changes from day to night.  We have already been watching short films looking at day changing to night from the same viewpoint.  Going from the countryside to the city and comparing the differences.

We will also be looking around the world at different continents.

Home Learning

This term we are trying to form all our numbers correctly making sure that 2 digit numbers are are in the right order i.e. so 25 doesnt say 52.  So please can you encourage the correct formation and Mr Farrington will be very pleased to see any evidence of this!!

Happy New Year!

Welcome Back!  The Year 1 Team would like to wish you a very Happy New Year!
It was lovely to welcome the children back and we had a fun time writing and talking about our favourite Christmas presents.  We look forward to having a great term.
