Rio week next week...

Rio week

Next week we will be celebrating the upcoming Olympics by having a Rio themed week. We will be dancing and singing to traditional music, making head wear and leanring about Rio and the Olympics.

A couple of things we would like from you please:
- Empty tin cans. We need as many as possible before Monday please
-By Thursday we would like you to bring in a colourful top for your child to wear. If you do not have a plain one then we can turn one inside out.

Finally on Friday you are all invited in at 2pm to watch our carnival procession in the school grounds and have a look at what we have been making.

This week in Year 1

This Friday is our class assembly from 9.20 in the hall. It will be a shorter than usual slot in the hall as we want to take you all out to the forest school area to show you where we have been learning outside.

This week Year 1 are carrying on with their 'Desert island' writing. They are using a story map to write their own versions of the story. In maths we are using number bonds to 20 to work through number problems.

For the next two Mondays I am going to finish off Forest Schools in year 1 by having all of the children together. So please make sure that your child has a long sleeve top, trousers, sensible shoes/ wellingtons and the appropriate weather wear.

Some information about Friday

Just a reminder that this Friday is the school fayre. It is not a non school uniform day, children should still come in to school in their uniforms.

Also on Friday afternoon the children will be choosing what to have as a celebration for getting all the pieces of Mr Potato head. This class reward is really important as it teaches the children the importance of team work.

Next Friday is our class assembly so we will be practising this next week. The summer assembly is a little different as we usually show you what we have been learning in the summer term in the hall like normal and then take all of the parents out to the forest school area to show you where we have been learning. It is the normal time of 9.20am.

A brilliant sports morning

Wow what a fantastic morning we had. The weather was luckily on our side today and so we enjoyed a fabulous sports morning. We started off with the track races which included a straight run, egg and spoon, sack, skipping and obstacle race. It was brilliant to hear the children encouraging each other and showing perseverance! We then moved down to the playground to show you some of the skills they have learnt this year. The children showed how if they concentrated then they had good control over the equipment.

Thank you to everyone that came to visit and we hope that you enjoyed cheering the children on.And to all of the Mums, Dads and even Grandads that took part in the running race at the end. I will put the photos on the board on Thursday morning and will endeavour to put them on the school website by next week.

Just another update which is PE related. 5 of the children in our class went to Quick cricket on Friday with Mrs Hall. They had a fantastic morning playing cricket at DMS.

Tim Peake has landed back on earth!

At 10.15am on the 18th of June 2016 Major Tim Peake landed back on earth. I was watching the live feed on the ESA, was anyone else? Tim spent 186 days in space and has inspired so many children and adults to learn about space and the experiments that they do on the ISS.

I look forward to sharing this with the children on Monday.

Our favourite astronaut returns tomorrow!!!!

This week we have been looking at the John Burningham story 'The Magic Bed'. Today the children wrote their own stories where they needed to tavel on their own magic bed to far away lands.

We have also focussed on our 'Send my friend to school' campaign where we have been thinking about why all children deserve to go to school and what the children would miss if they couldn't go.

In Jigsaw this week we have started our topic of 'changing me'. We spoke about life cycles and how you change when you grow up. We have also played Dreidel in RE. Why not ask your child what this us?

Finally this afternoon we revisted our favourite astronaut... Tim Peake. We showed the children a video of what a Soyuz landing would be like and discussed how and when Tim Peake will come back to earth tomorrow but don't worry if you don't get to see this as we will watch this on Monday morning!!!!

So Year 1 would like to end the week with a special message

'Good luck Tim Peake, safe journey home'.

Praise assembly and our fantastic writing!

Last week the children found out so much about the Queen. We focused on the trooping of the colour and learnt about the Queen and her family. Then we went on to look at the story 'The birthday crown'. The children then designed their own crowns for the Queen. Their fantastic writing can be seen on our display wall just outside the classroom in the hall. Please do have a look.

Particular children that were praised last week were-
LilyRose and Will for their trooping of the colour work.
George, Ziva, Mai, Isabelle, Josie, Harry DB and Sunny for their birthday crown writing.

The Queen's tea party 10/6/16

We had a lovely whole school Queen’s tea party on Friday 10th June. Preschool also joined us for this event, the whole school stood and sang the National anthem, and of course ‘ Happy Birthday’ too before tucking into the delicious cakes you all generously sent in.

Unfortunately then the rain paid us a visit, however before long we were able to venture back outside to complete the event by playing some ‘Royal based party games.

I would like to thank all the Yr 3 and 4 pupils for being so helpful in collecting tables and chairs from across the school supported by our adultsto enable the event to happen. The children were also very helpful in supporting the younger children at the tea party. It really showed off the ‘service’ element within our school community, helping others where we can.

The week ahead...Forest Schools tomorrow and birthday celebrations.

So it is nearly time to start the final term of the year! I hope that you have had a restful week and enjoyed the glorious weather.

This week we will be learning about The Queen and getting ready for the 90th birthday celebration on Friday afternoon. All of the school will be coming together for a tea party with bunting, crowns and hopefully some delious cakes! We are asking that the children bring in some cakes on Friday for this celebration please.

The children will be learning about the histroy of the Queen, her family, places she lives, timelines of her life, animals she has, money and we will be focussing on the story 'The Birthday Crown', which is the official Royal Collection Trust book.

Just a reminder that Forest School starts again tomorrow for Autumn and Winter group. Although it will be hot the children will need to wear a long sleeve top and trousers still as we will be using tools and so they need to wear this to protect themselves. Please can we also have summer hats, sun cream and water bottles in school please. We will stay in the shade as much as possible.
