Y1- All things Christmas! Updated about clothing.
This week the children have been practising for the play. Have you got your tickets yet?
We have also been busy getting our decorations and Christmas cards made. On Friday it is Christmas technology day. The children will go around the different classrooms to make a Christmas themed craft. Friday is non school uniform with a bottle or chocolate donated for the Christmas fair. If you can volunteer in Year 1 for this activity please do say (you may not be with your child). Also we would like some plastic bags to put the children's creations in. If you have any spare please bring them in tomorrow or Friday.

Y1 Through the wardrobe door...
Wow what a magical snowy scene you were all greeted with this morning. The inspiring start to the morning was the scene setting for our assembly. The children had to help convince the Snow Queen to return to Narnia! The children split into mixed classes for the morning to do some collaborative writing. We had fact files on Beavers, persuasive letters to the Snow Queen to explain the importance of Christmas, mythical creatures, alliteration poetry and palace descriptions. It was an absolutely fabulous morning and I am sure the children will fill you in with all the details! Aslan’s appearance in assembly was brilliant! These pieces of writing will be on display soon so keep checking the walls in Narnia!!

Y1- Christmas play practice has started!
This morning the children had a phonics morning. They split in to their phonics groups to go over the sounds that they have learnt and look at real and fake words. It is fantastic to see so many of you bringing in your spellings sheets well done! This week will be the last week of spellings until the New Year.
We also started our Christmas play ‘A little bird told me’. All of the children know what role they will play. In Year 1 we are the actors and Year 2 narrate for us. Mrs Hall will be sorting through the costumes tomorrow so if we need anything from you such as leggings we will let you know ASAP.
It was the last forest school session today. These will continue after Christmas with the Autumn and Winter Group.

Y1- What a fantastic end to our Castle topic!
Wow what a brilliant day Year 1 have had today! This morning all the children cut up the vegetables for our stew and decorated their crowns. Then after break we went out to the roundhouse area where they all made potions. All of the children had to use their imagination and tell us what all the ingredients in their potions were. We had some very creative items such as dragon scales, wizards beard and even some unicorn tears! In the afternoon we went back outside to enjoy a hot chocolate and a story in the roundhouse followed by a medieval circle dance around the fire circle.
It was fantastic to see so many parents and grandparents in the classroom this afternoon. I hope you enjoyed hearing about our day and looking at what the children have been doing in Literacy. It was great to see you enjoying the outdoors with the children and I hope you liked your tour around the roundhouse area.
Thank you for your support in making this day amazing!

Y1 -A busy and exciting week ahead!
We are finishing off our Castle topic work this week. The children will be writing more instructions, this time they will be making bread for you to taste on Wednesday. As well as writing instructions the children will be learning about using adjectives in their writing in the form of potions.
It is fantastic to see the children bringing in their home learning but we would love more writing! As a class we focus on cursive writing that is phonetically spelt, has finger spaces, capital letters and full stops. Writing at home with your child and sharing a love of writing will help them to understand how important it is to be able to do. So please do show your child how you use your literacy skills in your job and highlight this when they see their favourite characters. For example we all know that Ryder needs to be able to read in Paw Patrol and that it's vital for racing car drivers to be able to read and write! Home learning could be about the children's favourite story, their special toys or even a sentence or two about a funny picture they have found.
On Wednesday we will be sharing the food we make and this time will also give you a chance to look at your children's work and for them to tell you everything they have learnt.
In maths this week we will be doing subtraction using number lines and word problems.
We look forward to welcoming Mrs Entwistle this week on Thursday and Friday.

YR1 17.11.17 Superstars!
Wow
what a fantastic week and thank you so much for your kind words and gifts this
afternoon. We hope you enjoyed our assembly! As you could tell the children
loved it and were so proud. It has been a pleasure getting to know your child
over the last few months and I am sure they will make great progress in the
years to come.
Just a
reminder of what was said in the assembly, from 2.30pm on Wednesday 22nd
November you are invited to join the class, where you will be able to try some
of the food your child would have made earlier and see their work. Please can
you make sure on this day that your child comes
to school in their Forest School clothes. They will stay in these clothes
all day and be outside a lot so make sure they are warm and suitable for all
weathers.
On the
1st December Mrs Entwistle will be taking Year 1 on a little trip
locally (like we were going to do on a previous week) so if you could help it
would be much appreciated. You would need to be available between 1.30pm and
2.30pm. Please let a member of the Year 1 Team know asap so we can make sure
the trip goes ahead.
Once
again thank you all for your kindness.

Y1 Spring + Summer Forest School
Yesterday Spring and Summer group got to explore the roundhouse area. They started by making a autumnal colour palette.
Then after a quick hot chocolate refreshment the children worked in pairs to bug hunt. They used special pots to suck the bugs into a container so that they could see them. It was fantastic to see the children so excited about finding worms, spiders and slugs!

Please can we have kitchen roll tubes
If you have any kitchen roll tubes (not toilet roll) could we please have them for Year 1 as soon as possible. We would like to use them to inspire our learning next week. Many thanks!
Would you like to meet a future astronaut?! Exciting news!!
It is with great excitement that I can reveal that we will be having a special guest at The Prince of Wales School in February 2018. The winner of 'Astronauts:Do you have what it takes' Dr Suzie Imber will be giving a talk!
The BBC program which was presented by former commander of the International Space Station Chris Hadfield put 11 candidates through a number of gruelling tests to see who had the qualities to be an astronaut. Dr Suzie Imber will now get a recommendation to join the ESA when they next select future astronauts!
In Year 1 we learn about the topic of Space in the New Year. We will be having a talk by Dr Imber along with the rest of the school. As well as learning about what it is to be an astronaut we will learn a lot about Tim Peake and Chris Hadfield who have both spent time on the ISS.
If you haven't watched the series then you can see it on catch up and also Tim Peake and Suzie Imber were on The One Show last night!
More information about the talk will be shared with everyone in the New Year but we can't wait!!

We will be using it to help with labelling the different features of a castle, character descriptions, drama and potion making!
In maths we will be looking at shape and position. It is fantastic to hear the children so excited about using mathletics at home. If you are having any problems with access or being able to use it please do come and see us. I will print off the certificates every Monday.
Just a reminder that next week is our assembly, it will be at 2.30pm on Friday.

Y1- Our mysterious find!
Today we went to the roundhouse area as we heard that someone or something might have been up there last night. We wanted to make sure that nothing had been damaged. Luckily the area was ok however we did find some green eggs!!
After some discussion we decided to bring the eggs back in the classroom. The children had to think of lots of questions using the starters- How, what, where, when, who and why. The children had so many questions which was fantastic!
Where were they from?
Why are they green?
What is inside of them?
We have wrapped them up and put them away somewhere safe. I wonder what will happen to them??!!

As you are aware this week we have introduced your child to
Mathletics and after half term we will give them a laminated card with their
usernames and passwords on so you can use it more at home. Over half term,
please keep doing learning with your child orientated towards number bonds to
10 and 20. So even if in the car your shout out the number 4 and they have to
tell you the other number (so 6) to make 10. They are getting quicker at this,
but some children need more practice, especially up to 20! Also please get
creative over half term with the home learning!!
There is a change to our Class Assembly. To confirm it is
going to be on Friday 17th November, but at 2.30pm!!! Once we have
finished you are welcome to sign your child out and go early. The reason for
the change is that it is school pictures in the morning which we cannot
rearrange. Sorry for any inconvenience.
