This week in
Literacy we are baking and then writing instructions. Additionally we are
writing poetry and will be using alliteration, so please encourage your children
to explore poetry at home when you can. I have handed out spellings from last
week this afternoon so please make sure your child is practising them at home,
especially as we have the Phonics Screening Tests coming up.
In regards to the
Phonics Screening Tests I will be available on Monday 15th May between 9-9.30am to do an informal Parent Information Session in
the classroom, so if you have any questions regarding this I will be able to
answer any of your questions at this time. A Summer Term Newsletter will be
going out later this week regarding the overall learning for this term
(including dates for trips), so next Monday will primarily concentrate on Phonics.
However, of course please come along with any queries you may have.
In Maths this week,
as we are baking, we are concentrating on exploring capacity. In addition we
are consolidating our knowledge of telling the time and counting in 2s, 5s and
10s. To support your child at home please encourage them to take notice of the
time throughout the day and discuss how seconds and minutes are shorter than
hours, days etc.
In Science this
week we are continuing to explore animals! The children are really enjoying
learning about animals so please encourage them to do home learning on this
subject and to share what they learn/do with the rest of the class during show
and tell.
On Thursday we
have a visit from Life Education. They are concentrating on the theme ‘My
Wonderful Body’ which should relate to staying healthy. Please remember we are
a healthy school and promote your child eating fruit and/or vegetables as a
snack.
As it is getting
sunnier outside, please make sure your child has a sunhat with them and if you
wish your child to wear sun cream, please bring in a labelled sun cream and the
correct form which was attached to your last newsletter.
Today during Forest
School many of the children did not have the appropriate clothing, so please
make sure if your child is in Autumn or Winter their Forest School clothes remain
in school until half term. Thank you.
Lastly, as I was
unwell last week I never said congratulations to those children who received awards
for their efforts for last half term! Well done!
