Y1- This week

A huge well done to all of the children for all of the effort they put in to the assembly on Friday. I hope you all saw how much they have learnt about animals and how the children have enjoyed learning about nature.

This week we are going to be writing a different version of 'The Lighthouse Keeper's lunch'. The children will be thinking about a different adventure the seagulls can go on!

In Maths we will be having a focus on direction. Can you turn half the way around, a whole turn and even a quarter. We will use the beebots to help us with this.

Can we now please have the cups  (awards) back from Summer 1. We will be having our end of Year awards ceremony on Monday morning.

Y1- Open afternoon and assembly lines

We have had a busy week in Year 1! In Literacy we have been learning about adjectives, nouns and verbs. The children are using the inspiration of ‘The Lighthouse Keeper’s lunch’ to design a new disgusting sandwich for the seagulls!

In Maths we have been weighing objects using the scales and predicting how much an object weighs using non standard units such as unifix.

Thank you everyone that has bought in clothes for assembly (not everyone needs different). We have been busy practising. If you do get a chance please do help your child learn their lines. Assembly is 9.20am on Friday.

Just a reminder that tomorrow there is an open afternoon from 2.30pm for you to come in, look at all of your child’s work and also a chance to see Mr MacBean.

Y1- Measuring potions, Challah bread and a reminder...

This week in Year 1 we have been planning our recount of our trip to Portland Bill. The children have had to use the time connectives first, next, after that, later and finally in their work. We have started to look at the stories of 'The lighthouse keepers lunch' and will base our writing around this story for the last remaining weeks.

We had our last forest school session with the Spring and Summer group on Monday. It has been fantastic to see the children's confidence and independence grow outside. Depending on the weather we do plan to do so outside learning in the last week of term so we will keep you up dated.

Today in Jigsaw we discussed the proper names for girls and boys body parts and the importance of them being private.

In RE we tasted some challah bread. This is the traditional bread that Jewish families have during Shabbat. Thank you to Mrs Howell for making this it was delicious!

In maths we are focusing on capacity. Today we having been measuring potions, estimating how many spoon full of sand different containers hold and looking at full, half full and empty.

In our assembly today the Dorchester library introduced the new Summer Reading challenge. This is a fantastic activity to do with your child in the summer. They have to read or be read to six times. They get fun stickers and a medal and a certificate at the end. If you haven't taken part yet give it a go it is free!

Finally just a reminder that it is our final Year 1 assembly next Friday (13th). Please do come along from 9.20am to hear about what we have been learning about over the Summer term.
