Year 1 - Super Space Projects!

Hello everyone,

I would just to say a huge thank you and WOWZERS for all the brilliant home learning projects we have had in over the last couple of weeks. They are just so so good, all of them! We've had melting planets, cake planets, fruit planets, mechanical planets and fact after fact. We will be displaying all the home learning through to the end of term next week in the classroom so please take a look if you get the chance. These pictures are just some of them! 

We also hope that all you lovely mums received your Mother's Day cards on Friday! You will hopefully be able to put your 'vouchers' to good use.

It has been lovely to see how all the children have really gone and grabbed the topic of space... we only hope next half term will be the same. 

Finally, we had a very successful farm trip on Thursday to see how the farm works during the lambing time of year! As always, a big thank you to everyone that came along to help as well as Hazel at Maiden Castle Farm for having us.

Year 1 - Accelerated Reader This Wednesday!

Hello everyone,

Hopefully you will have all received a couple of bits this evening when children were sent home... one of these was a free book leading on from our work during Book Week and the other was a letter explaining how we are going to be taking part in some astronaut training next Friday 5th April!

Don't forget that this Wednesday (27th) we will be inviting you in from half 3 to have a look at how Accelerated Reader works! I know some of you have already began exploring this yourselves so please continue to do so. Hopefully we will be able to show you how easy it is to use and answer any questions you may have about the books/quizzes. 

On the note of Accelerated Reader please could we ask that the books children have taken out are kept in book bags every day as we may use them every day in school.

Year 1 - Accelerated Reader

Hello everyone,

We have started this week with some fantastic learning about 'algorithms' in computing. The children wrote down their algorithm in simple steps for someone else to follow.

Tomorrow we will be launching 'Accelerated Reader' with the class. This is an online tool that aims to support and encourage reading for pleasure on a regular basis and then once finished reading a book, taking a quiz to support and aid understanding of the text. This will be possible for you to do at home also through the school website. With this in mind there will be the opportunity for you to come into school from 3.30pm next Wednesday 27th March to come and see how this works and ask any questions. As well as this there be a chance for you to go down to the library to familiarise yourself with checking books in/out - which will also be freely available for you to do before and after school. If you are unable to make this date and would like to find out more information please come and see me. 

Lastly, this week there will be a letter coming home explaining how we intend to send home a weekly sheet of real and nonsense words just for reading only. This will be to give children the experience and practice of reading a selection of real and nonsense words. The letter will explain this more.

Hello!

Firstly, a big well done to everyone in year 1 that took part in the POW Talent Show this afternoon! This ended up being pretty much the whole class!? Thank you also to everyone that could make it to come and watch.

Year 1 - Home Learning Project

Hello everyone,

Hopefully you will have received the home learning project that we would like year 1 children to complete this half term?! If you have not, please come and see us and we'll get you one. I've put a copy below too so you have that for reference. 

If you have any questions about anything please come and see us. If not, we very much look forward to receiving all your brilliant and creative learning in school in the coming weeks. 

HOME LEARNING PROJECT - SPACE

This half term we would like you to set you a home learning project all about the planets. You may choose which planet you would like to investigate further! This can include any of the planets in our solar system (including pluto). The only explicit guidance we would like to give you is that your project must include some relevant and interesting facts about your chosen planet! There is no restriction on the layout… it could be a poster, collage, craft… be as creative as you would like to be. Some ideas are below for some inspiration! Closing date for this is Friday 29th March. Please feel free to bring your projects into school earlier than this.

Year 1 - March Maths Challenge - 8th March 2019

Next week we are taking part in the Mathletics March Maths Challenge.  We have entered into this competition against other children across the world who use Mathletics.  It runs from Monday 11th to Sunday 17th March.  If we can get onto the leader boards we stand a good chance of winning a prize for the school.  So get logged on and lets see how many points we can earn!  Points earned at home as well as at school all count, so go Mathletics Mad!

Yesterday we explored the idea of gravity with some paper spinners. Some great fun science about how things are naturally attracted to the Earth. Please ask you children about gravity and see if they can dazzle you like they dazzled us in the classroom!

Year 1 - Weekly Spellings

Hello everyone,

As well as sending home spellings in book bags on a weekly basis I will also make sure I put them up on here so you have a copy in case they go missing! The children are making huge strides with their spellings and as time goes on we will be encouraging correct spellings as oppose to phonetically sounded words. Thank you for all your support, all the practicing really does pay off.
