Year 1 - Book Bags

Hello everyone,

As we begin Accelerated Reader I just wanted to remind everyone to please keep their school books in their book bags and bring them in to school every day. We do change the days and times that we access these books and it is always useful if they are easily accessed. These are then ready to be taken home daily and used.
As a reminder moving forwards children should have 3 books minimum in their book bags.
1. Their Read, Write Inc book/text
2. Their library book
3. Their Accelerated Reader book.

Thank you for your help and please come and see us if you have any questions.

Hi all,

Today we have sent children home with their log in cards for Code for Life!
This is an online website that introduces children to the concept of computer science and some of the terminology used within this.
To access this you need to head to the school website and click pupil links > year 1 folder > Computing > Code for life.
Once logged in you need to access the Rapid Router section and then the steps are all laid out there! We will be continuing to access this in school also to support the learning of Computer Science further.

Year 1 - Reading Show and Tell

Image result for reading for pleasure.

Hello everyone,

As mentioned in the parent information session and the termly newsletter, we are going to be introducing a new approach to show and tell.
From tomorrow, there will be 5 children a week chosen to bring in their favourite books and stories from home, if they would like to. Children will then be invited to tell the class about their book; why they like it etc. And if they feel confident too, have a go at reading to the class.
Through doing this we are aiming to promote a love of reading - continuing that journey towards reading for pleasure - for the children to consider what it is about a book that they enjoy and then read out loud for an audience!
I will place the children who are selected this week up on the board for tomorrow morning - everyone will get a turn.

In regards to other items of show and tell we will still happily show any home learning projects, as well as milestones and achievements that the children themselves are proud of and would like to share. because they are just amazing! We will be encouraging all other show and tell material to be kept safe at home.

If you have any questions about this please don't hesitate to come and chat with me.

Year 1 - Space

Image result for space images black hole

Hello everyone,

I hope the parent information session this morning was useful! If you were unable to attend, the presentation will be shared on Facebook. If you have any questions please feel free to come and chat with us.
As we are now well and truly in to our topic of space I thought I would share a few links to some of the materials we have been looking at so far! The children have been so enthused by the topic so far and have shown great curiosity; asking questions that the adults have had no idea about! Above is the first ever image taken of a Black Hole - which we have had endless questions about.

So, without further delay, here are the links!

Chris Hadfield put together a series of really interesting videos from his experiments whilst he was up on the International Space Station - here
NASA has some brilliant pictures from the Hubble Space Telescope as well as a tonne of other media - here
The Science Museum has a wide range of space based things online too - here
And finally, the European Space Agency website has a whole kids area to explore - here

Thank you to the children that have already bought in their Space home learning project! Just to remind everyone it is to investigate a part of our solar system and find out some facts that can be presented in as creative a way as you can conceive!
