Mathletics Update - 31st January 2021

Another week of home learning done and a very big well done for all that you do.  We have had lots of children logging in and making use of mathletics and each and every one of you will receive a Marvellous Me Resourceful Spider badge to say well done for your Mathletics learning!

We would like to celebrate the following children achieving their next Mathletics Bronze Awards this week:

Georgia, Ellis, Lucia, Malie, Florence, Joshua, Imogen, Alexander, Mia, George P, Jessica, Kizzy, William, Anna, Asimina, Vasilis, Hollie, Joel, Rosa, Oscar, Jessica, Alfred, Charlie, George, Charlie and Layla.

Well done everyone!

And remember... Mathletics is an optional extra.  Its not essential, but provides an extra platform to practice those important skills if you have time.

Chinese New Year!

Hi everyone! I just want to start by saying....YOU ARE ALL DOING SO WELL! I couldn't be anymore proud of each and every one of you. You have adapted so well to these changing times and are keeping smiling and positive! A really big pat on the back to you all.

I am really enjoying seeing all the work that is being produced so thank you for sharing this with me! I am one very happy teacher. Even though I am missing you all so much, we will be reunited soon.

We are quickly approaching the end of this half of term (I can't believe how quickly it's gone by!) and the actual date for Chinese New Year will be here soon (12th Feb). We will be sending home a few surprises for the children in the final resource pack for this half term.

Also..this is by no means compulsory, however, I have put an activity for the last week that surrounds chinese food. If you are able to get any chinese food for your children to taste please do, if you cannot then please do not worry! We would be trying different chinese foods in the classroom if we were all together and wanted to make sure this could still be an option. Iceland do cheap frozen chinese food I think at around £1-£2 per box! If you still have your chopsticks you could see if the children could try and eat the food with these. However, this is not compulsory!

As always if you have any questions then please email me! Take care and stay safe.

Mathletics Clarification - 25th January 2021

Mathletics / TTRS clarification

In response to feedback we would like to clarify that participation in TTRS (years 2-4) and Mathletics (years 1-4) learning platforms are an optional way of gaining extra practice in those key maths skills.  They have never been mandatory and we would urge you to use them as you see fit to support your learning at home.  There is no pressure to take part.

We know that you are doing a wonderful job at home and by sharing success here we wanted to celebrate your child's achievements in using these resources.  We will continue to celebrate some of these each week through our blogs, but the majority of praise for your child's effort will come through marvellous me.

Thank you all for your continued effort in supporting your children learning at home.

Year One Superstars!

Hello all, I just wanted to post a blog to again say a HUGE WELL DONE!!!!

I am so proud of each and every child in Year One and also you as parents and carers. You are supporting your children incredibly well even if some of you don't feel like it sometimes. I just want to remind you that you are not alone and if you are not following the timetable everyday, then it's OK! The most important thing is keeping yourselves and the children happy and as stress free as possible. You are doing a great job and we can't thank you enough for this!

Next week I have adapted the timetable to have Friday as a more of a catch up day. This allows you to catch up on any lessons/activities you may have missed in the week or didn't have time for. I hope this helps!

Also, please keep on sending your children's work to me. I am aiming to send a video back to every email I get with your children's work in. I hoping this will lift the children's spirits if they are missing us at school. It will also be beneficial to send me your child's work as I can send targeted feedback to each child which can aid their learning and progression.

If you need any advice or just need a chat then please contact me. I am missing you and the children so much, but we are all keeping safe and this is the most important thing.

Speak soon and stay safe!

Coming up this week..

Hello you amazing lot!! I just want to start by saying a HUGE well done to you and the Year One children. I am so impressed with how you have all settled into distance learning school. I am really enjoying seeing all the work that the children are doing. Please keep on sending me their work, I love to see it!

Just a few things about what is coming up this week;

From tomorrow the distance learning timetable is a little different. It is more focussed to what we would have been doing in the classroom if lockdown didn't occur. Each lesson on the timetable will send you to a different link. Most of them will send you to a video made by myself (Miss White) or Ms Evans that talks through each lesson as if we were in the classroom. Our aim with this is to make the lessons more independent for the children to access.

However, it's very important that you monitor the children when using the internet and don't leave them unsupervised.

Once they start to watch the video for the lesson each step will be talked through which means the children can go through the lesson independently. There are times where they will need to pause the video. You may need to show them how to do this. I hope that makes sense!

Also, I hope you have all received the email about zoom calls. These will be starting from tomorrow. If you have any questions or queries regarding this please send me an email or call the office in the morning and I will be able to help. I look forward to seeing the children tomorrow!

It's been amazing to see that some children have completed their AR quizzes, thank you! We also have a rising percentage of children accessing the online learning which is AMAZING to see. You are all doing an incredible job, well done!

As always please contact me if there is anything you need, if you have any questions or if you just want a chat. Please keep on sending me work that is completed to a.white@princeofwales.dorset.sch.uk

Take care and stay safe!

Accelerated reader and Mathletics

Hello everyone, I hope you are all ok after the announcement from Boris last night. We are all missing the children so much already but we will stay in contact as much as we can! Please let us know if there is anything we can do to support you more. We are only an email or phone call away.

This Thursday a learning pack will be available for each child. You have all been sent a time slot for you to come and collect these. If your children are accessing Key Worker school we can send these packs home with the children.

This term I was planning to launch Accelerated Reader and Mathletics in the classroom. However, this launch will have to be from home. I will be sending home log ins for both in the packs this week. For the accelerated reader ages you will first need to do an assessment to find out the children's reading ages. It is extremely important that parents do not help the children with this assessment as this will alter the results. Children must read all questions by themselves and answer by themselves. I have added a step by step to help you with accessing this assessment. Follow this link below. The first two steps are to click Year One and then AR Reading. The password you will need when you get to the final stage is 'admin'.

I have assigned tasks on Mathletics for all children to access as well.

Any questions please email me!

Thank you all for your continued support!

Happy New Year and welcome to the Spring Term!

Happy New Year and welcome to the spring term, we can't wait to see all your smiling faces tomorrow - we have missed you!

We really hope you've had a relaxing break and a lovely christmas and new year. We understand that it may have been a bit emotional not being able to see all your loved ones and it continues to be quite uncertain as what is to come. Just a reminder that we are, and always have been, in this together!

This term we also welcome Ms Evans who is our new trainee teacher in Year One - I know she is very eager to start with us and very excited.

See you all tomorrow for the start of our new term!
