Year 1 - Farm reminder

Just a reminder about the farm trip tomorrow! Please ensure children have the appropriate clothing for the weather tomorrow. The weather forecast says it's sunny with a fresh breeze. However, we know how quickly that could change! I know a lot of children have wet clothes and wellies already in school. If you know your child doesn't, please send this in tomorrow. No extra snack will be needed as we are going after lunch.

Also just another quick reminder about a red top. If you haven't already sent your child in with a red top for Friday's assembly please can this be sent in tomorrow.

Thank you!

Another great week in the Year 1 classroom!

Hello everyone, I hope you have been enjoying the beautiful sunny weather this weekend!

We have had another AMAZING week in the Year 1 classroom. Your children truly are amazing!

We have been exploring length and height in Maths, and the children have learnt how to measure using non-standard units of measure and also a ruler. In Literacy we have been reading a book called 'Man on the moon - a day in the life of Bob'. The children have produced some great writing. In Science we have been focussing on seasonal changes (Winter/Spring/Summer) and what changes relate to which seasons. We also did a whole school Science investigation which looked at 'do heavier balls make bigger craters?'. This was something we had to prove. This involved lots of flower everywhere!

Coming up this week;
- CLASS ASSEMBLY!! Our rescheduled class assembly is on Friday at 9:15 in the hall. Please can you send in a red t-shirt with your child at some point this week before Friday. Please make sure these are named.
- Trip to Maiden Castle Farm - On Thursday we are off to the farm. Please can you make sure you are sending your children in with suitable clothing for the weather.
- Sponsored bunny hop - on Wednesday we will be taking part in a sponsored bunny hop! Please can you send in any sponsorship forms this week.
- Springfest - Springfest is on Friday! We hope to see a lot of you there.

See you all tomorrow!

Red nose day!

Just a reminder that it is Red Nose Day (Comic relief) tomorrow. If you want to, you can send your child in wearing a superhero costume (remember, not all heroes wear capes!), in something red or in a Comic Relief top. We will also be having a cake sale after school. If you have any cakes you want to sell, please take these to the office in the morning. We will also be asking for a small donation. All year-round, the money donated to Comic Relief works hard to support some incredible projects making a change to people's lives across the UK and around the world. We are also selling red noses at the office if you would like to purchase one.

Any questions, please let me know!

Last week in the Year One classroom!

Hi everyone, I hope you've had a great weekend and have been enjoying the sunshine!

I just want to start this blog by apologising for having to reschedule our class assembly and I hope you all understand the reason why we had to. We have now rescheduled this for the 1st April.

This week we have had a busy week yet again! In Literacy we have been writing letters to the POW space station about why we would be good recruits. Apparently the adults who are at the space station are a bit silly....especially me! (Miss White). I was so impressed with their writing during these lessons. In Maths we have been continuing with our numbers to 50 and we have started to learn how to count in 2's. In Art we have been using water colours to paint the planets in the solar system. In Science we have been looking at seasonal changes.

On Tuesday we were lucky enough to visit the Corn Exchange and see a giant Mars. The children took their sketchbooks and sketched Mars and we also have a story sat underneath it. It was such an amazing experience had by all.

Thank you so much for the home learning this week (mobile solar systems). They blew me away!!!

Coming up this week we have Jade Hurdiss who is an author coming in on Wednesday to talk to us, which will be such an exciting opportunity. Friday is also comic relief!! We have some fun activities happening throughout the day. We are asking for children to dress up as their favourite superhero or in red. Red noses will be on sale from the office this week if you would like to purchase one. There is also a cake sale if you would like to bake a cake for this.

An email was sent around about a Maths questionnaire for a leadership course I am on. I would really appreciate it if you could take the time to fill this out. I've only had one response so far. Here is the link again if you could please fill it out - https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1_j5xa38eixTr-VdOdJmysFFQZH5W9-cRAHZ_Wg_H5F0/edit

Please can you continue to read with your children at home and practice their spellings with them. Also, can you look to see if you have any RWI books at home. We have many children not bringing these back in!

See you all tomorrow!

Coming up this week in Year 1

Hi all, I hope you've had a good weekend and are enjoying the sunshine today!

We have had such a good first week back after the half term and I am feeling so proud of how your children have settled back in after having some time off.

It's been a busy week, but full of fun! World book day was on Thursday and every single child looked amazing in their costumes. Thank you! We were lucky enough to join a live call with author Catherine Rayner and even got to experience live drawing alongside her. In the afternoon we had jelly and ice cream, played pass the parcel and had some fun on a bouncy castle. On Friday we had an 'out of this world' experience in a Planetarium. We were learning all about the planets, stars and whats in space. This fit in so well our topic and all children were inspired and excited after this visit.

Next week it is our class assembly on Friday (11.3.22). This has come around very quickly! Children will be coming home with their lines tomorrow. We are not expecting children to learn their lines as they don't have a lot of time. Please practice their lines at home to ensure they are confident to read these. Assembly will start at 9:15 on Friday in the hall. We hope you can make it! We also ask that you send children in with a red top sometime this week as this is what we will be wearing. Thank you in advance!

Tomorrow we have a cricket engagement day where the children will be taking part in a cricket workshop. Please can we ask that all children have their PE kits in school. We have a lot of them already but if you know your child doesn't have theirs in school please send them in.

On Tuesday we are visiting the corn exchange to see a giant mars exhibit! We will be travelling to and from by coach. This will be such an exciting opportunity and again links in so well with our Space topic!

Please continue practicing spellings with your children, listening to them read and reading their lines with them for our class assembly.

If you have the opportunity please can you play this song to your children at home. This will be the song we are learning for our class assembly!

I will add pictures into a blog tomorrow. They haven't backed up from the class ipad yet!! Sorry!

World book day!

Hi everyone, hope you are all ok!

I just wanted to send a reminder about World Book Day tomorrow. We have so many exciting things happening across the day. It is encouraged that your children dress up as their favourite book character. I can't wait to see all of the amazing costumes! If they do not want to dress up, please send them in wearing their school uniform.

There will be no hot lunches tomorrow and Friday. Please can you send your children in with packed lunches for both of these days. We encourage you to send a booked theme packed lunch in tomorrow, but this is not compulsory.

Children will also be having a whole school birthday party in the afternoon which will involve pass the parcel, jelly and ice cream and also maybe a bouncy castle!!

See you all tomorrow,
Miss White
