Happy Easter!

 Hello Year One Families

Thank you for coming to the class assembly this morning. We hope you enjoyed it as much as the children did. We were so impressed with how confidently they all said their lines and joined in with the songs.  They were amazing!

To finish our week we rounded up our geography learning by drawing our own giant maps. We added symbols on to it, using a key. We also took some inspiration from our visitor 'Dave Draws.' A lovely way to round off a very busy half term.

We would like to wish you all a very happy Easter.

The week in Year One

 Hello Year One Families

Last week we continued to enjoy our dance lessons with Mr Treble. It was certainly a 'Mission Impossible' but we persevered with rolling, jumping and crawling to the music!

In English we read the book 'The Darkest Dark' by Astronaut Chris Hadfield. The children took it in turns to be 'hot-seated,' taking on the role of Chris and imagining what is was like to witness the moon landing on the TV in 1969 as Chris did.

In Art, we finished our seasons work by creating our own seasonal pictures using the skills and resources we had learnt about over the half term. The children were able to get creative with pencils, paints and charcoal to create some wonderful pictures.

And finally, some children in the class had a cycling lesson. There was lots of great perseverance shown. Well done!

The children have also been working very hard in maths at counting in 2s to 24 and 5s to 50 and practicing number bonds to 10 and 20.

Class Assembly
Don't forget that we are really looking forward to sharing our assembly with you on Friday 31st March at 9.20am.

Fond Farewell to Mrs Elliott
We will also be saying a fond farewell to Mrs Elliott on Wednesday who has been with us since January. She has been an absolute asset to the Year One Team and the children are very lucky to have been taught by her. We are sure that she will be a fantastic class teacher.

British Science Week

Hello Year One families

In amongst all our learning this week it has been British Science Week. We have been spending time connecting with nature in a number of ways. We looked after our school by completing a litter pick. We planted some seeds and bulbs in our outdoor area and we spent time being mindful in nature: listening to what we could hear in our environment.

In PE we have continued to learn different dances. The children have really enjoyed taking part in different routines and working with friends to dance together.

In science we have been learning about the seasons. This week we learnt about hibernation. We then drew a picture of an animal that hibernates and wrote some facts about it. The children were very interested about finding out about this. I wonder if they can remember some facts to tell you?

We also completed a secret mission! All will become clear on Sunday!

The children have also bought home some words to learn for our assembly which is on Friday 31st March at 9.15am. We would love to see you there.

Learning legends in Year One

 Hello Year One Families

PE has been lots of fun this week as the children have been learning a range of fun and energetic dances. I wonder if any of the children can show you the dance moves they have learnt? A firm favourite was the Birdy Song!

In art, we used a dabbing technique, with a cotton bud, to create a spring picture. We used the artist Phillip Sutton's 'The Tree' 1958 as inspiration. The children stood to paint as this gave them more movement in their bodies to create their pictures.

In science we spent our time trying to convince the rest of the class which season was the best and why. The children spoke knowledgeably about the seasons, showing off what they had learnt about each one. Some children even switched teams when they heard about the benefits of another season!

REMINDER - ASSEMBLY DATE

Our class assembly will be on Friday 31st March at 9.15am. We hope you can join us.

World Book Day

What a wonderful World Book Day we have had in Year One today!

We began the day by talking about the character we had dressed up as and then we went into the hall and chose a new book from the book swap. After this we read some of the books that children had bought in and the character from the book came and sat up at the front while their story was read.

We spent some time writing and drawing our character in English.

During the afternoon we visited the hall to look at some new books and then at the end of the day we went to the library for story time.

A great, book-filled day.
