Hello Year One Families
We are excited to tell you that the children have filled the 'Critter Jar' and have earned themselves a treat. On Friday the children can bring in pyjamas/onesie to get changed into and a teddy. They will be having an afternoon of movie watching and teddy cuddling!
Hello Year One Families
In Forest School this week the children learnt how to start a fire using flint. They also made dens and then got to cook some cinnamon apples on the fire. They absolutely love these sessions and get so much out of learning outdoors.
This week the children have made the most wonderful animal habitats using the bricks. The children have been playing and exploring with building these for a while now but this week they seemed to really take it to a new level. Great problem solving and sharing of ideas.
Hello Year One Families
On Friday we had an amazing visit from ZooLab. Emma showed us lots of fantastic creatures, some of which we got to touch. The children were very interested in what Emma had to tell them and loved learning about the different types of animals. This formed part of our science topic this term, where we have been learning about different animal groups. If you don't like snakes don't look down!
In Computing today, Year One started their new unit of work on 'Grouping and Sorting' -

What a week we had in Year One!
On Tuesday Miss Johnson took the class, in groups, to the kitchen, where they made smoothies. This is the culmination of their Design Technology unit. The children tasted different fruit and vegetables, designed a smoothie and then got to taste and evaluate it. Every smoothie had to contain one vegetable. The children helped to chop and blend the smoothies and enjoyed tasting them at the end of the session.
Hello Year One Families

In Computing on Monday, Year One continued to explore the 'Tools' area of Purple Mash and to learn about the common icons used in Purple Mash for Save, Print, Open and New.
We also considered the importance of logging out when we have finished our work.

Hello Year One Parents
We had a very exciting week last week that included a fabulous Forest School session and a trip to Maiden Castle farm.
In maths we have been learning to use rekenreks, which are a type of mathematical equipment we use for counting. The children are really good at sliding the whole number across.
In Forest School the children made Farmer's Markets and then sold their items to one another. They absolutely loved doing this and Mrs Surtee's our Forest School Leader was so impressed with their language and vocabulary. Well done Y1!
