HELP - a desparate plea!!!!!

HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Does anyone have any compost that I could use tomorrow, pretty please - rather than spending a fortune on new bags, I would rather see if there are any half bags that need using up first!?

Also, if anyone has any part used BRIGHT gloss paint that they could donate for the tyre planters, that would be great too!

Thank you!

Year 1 has their very own Space Station! 26.2.16

This week Year 1 have started the topic of 'Space'. We have looked at pictures taken from the I.S.S and described what we could see.

Today we talked about the home learning and shared with each other everything the children researched, wrote and made. These fantastically creative pieces of work can be seen on our display tables by the hall. Please feel free to go and have a look at these next week. Thank you all so much for the amount of effort that you put in, they are brilliant!

All week our quiet room has been out of bounds. Today we received a mystery package from the ESA.
We have our very own Year 1 rocket! The rocket was sent with a letter inside thank us for all of the hard work we have made with learning about space so far. It also explained that the seeds that we are getting from space will be arriving soon! The European Space Agency (ESA) sent the letter and explained that they had set up our quiet room into a Space Station.

'Flying astronaut'
'Have your picture with Tim Peake.

All the children were amazed with the transformation. We look forward to hearing what out next challenge is going to be!

Next week we will be making a piece of art but need your help please. We would like to collect Fair trade food wrappers! When you are eating scrumptious food over the weekend please check to see if it is Fair trade and then please can we have the wrappers!

Thank you in advance!

Welcome back to the Spring term!

Welcome back. I hope that you have had a restful half term. It's fantastic to see so many home learning pieces in school already! If your child has not managed to bring anything in yet then please bring these in by Friday.

We have had some mysterious workmen sorting out a few things in our quiet room. The European Space Agency placed a sign on our door for us to wait for a command!

In Maths this week we are learning to tell the time. Today we used analogue clocks to read and draw o'clock and half past timings. It would be great if you could promote this at home. The children were very interested at looking at the clocks, especially the clocks that have three hands.

We need your help!

Eco week – Week commencing 29th February

We need your help!

Monday 29th February – We are having a whole school eco activity day.  The children will have chosen three activities they wish to do; they will visit other classrooms and work with children across the school.  If you are able to come on in and lend a hand, then please let your class’s team know. The more helpers the more successful these activities can be!

Also, events and learning through eco week are going on throughout this week. Again, if you have a small amount of time spare, please do let us know, we would really appreciate any extra offers of help. Again, please talk to your child’s teacher/ team.

Finally, thank you to all of you who have been bringing in wanted items by staff for eco week, we very much appreciate all of the items, these will help in ensuring the children’s learning and activities can be as exciting and fun as planned!

Home learning for half term- 11.2.16

Home learning for the half term

Next term we will be doing a topic on Space and specifically looking at the astronauts Neil Armstrong and Tim Peake. Over the half term we would like you to do some home learning on the topic. You could make a model, draw or even find out some facts about the Principia mission.
Please make these as creative as possible! We would like to see these by Friday the 26th February.

Big Write and the last week of the half term- 8.2.16

Tomorrow the children will be using their adapted story maps in a 'big write' session. They will spend a longer session writing to show the writing skills they have learnt.

It has been brilliant to see so many Mathletics certificates last week. I do print these off daily and these are given out in our assemblies.

Unfortunately we had to cancel the Forest School session today as the wind was too strong. The children weaved some willow in the classroom. We will swap over the groups after half term so Autumn and Winter will be doing Forest Schools the first Monday when we get back. During our Eco week (2nd week back) I am asking that all children have their Forest Schools clothes in school all week.

A number of children are coming in to school without group reading books in their bags. Although it is fantastic that the children are reading at home, please can these come in to school everyday as we need to read/swap them over.

Many thanks

Year 1 team

Cosmic Classroom- Watching a live chat from space! 2.2.16

This afternoon Tim Peake spoke live from the ISS. A number of schools had to register to answer questions and watch it and we were one of them!
The children watched in awe as Tim Peake did somersaults and played ping pong with a bubble of water! He showed how he could make the bubble expand by putting a fizzy tablet inside of it.

Year 1 need your help please!

Year 1 will be doing an exciting topic next term and need your help! We would like your recycled kitchen rolls (not toilet rolls), pringle tubes and any other cylinder shapes. As well as this we would like to recycle any cereal bar boxes (as shown in the picture below).

Please bring any of these to the Year 1 classroom or give them to your teachers to pass on.

Forest Schools- 1.2.16

This week in forest schools the children were noticing creatures that we have in our school grounds.
In pairs the children made tally charts to record how many creatures they observed such as slugs, worms, ants and birds. Using the tally charts they then made a pictogram.

Year 1 the detectives! 1.2.16

Well we started the day as detectives! There was a mysterious scene in the hall this morning.

The children had to work with their chatty chums to think of 'what' and 'why' questions about what they could see. Why were there feathers? What made the mess?

Then as they were evaluating this that had a special visit from Goldilocks. They found out that it was actually Goldilocks that made the mess after having hot porridge!

As you can probably guess, we are now looking at the traditional tale 'Goldilocks and the three bears'. At the end of the week we will learn an alternative version and plan a 'Big Write' session next week.
