This coming week in Literacy we will be doing another Big Write, based on the wonderful pictures within ‘Into the Forest’ by Anthony Browne. I will not be revealing the story to the children until after the Big Write, so even if you have this book at home please do not share it with them. However, you can support your child by discussing the picture they bring home on Tuesday evening.
These questions may support you:
- What is going on in the picture?
- What do you think is going to happen?
- Can you describe the boy?
- Can you describe the woods?
- Why do you think he is going into the woods?
- What is happening in there?
- What normally happens in woods? Is it like
Little Red Riding Hood?
I look forward to seeing what your children
produce!
In Maths we are focusing on addition and subtraction.
We will have a particular emphasis on solving pictorial addition and
subtraction questions. Additionally, we will be counting and solving sums using
twos, fives and tens. To engage the class we will be using ‘One is a Snail, Ten
is a Crab’ by April Pulley Sayre and Jeff Sayre. I am hoping this story will
spark your child’s interest to create sums at home using pictures within the
story!
Next week is our final week making puppets
for our Traditional Tale Topic. As we want to get them all finished before the
end of term any extra hands would be much appreciated! On Tuesday 28th and Thursday 30th at 2.30pm we
will be working on them, so please come along. Just let one of the Year 1 Team
know.
Thank you for all your support.
Year 1 Team
