Dear parents.
I just wanted to say how sorry I am that I wasn’t able to be there today. I have thoroughly enjoyed working with each and everyone of your children, they are all so amazing! I will most definitely miss finishing the year off with them.
I would also like to thank you for your very kind cards and gifts, it was very generous, my little one will be well and truly spoilt.
I am hoping to return to school the first week back where I can say a goodbye to the children properly.
Once again, thank you so much. I hope you all have lovely and restful half term.
Mrs Entwistle
Home Learning:
Over the holiday we would very much encourage phonics practice, especially alien words. The children will be able to tell you what they need to look for (special friends, Fred talk, say the word). They are becoming brilliant at this.

This week
It was lovely to be back in our classroom this week and WOW what a difference!
We have had another busy couple of days doing lots of learning and celebrating achievements.
On Thursday we continued with subtracting in maths. The children were using tens frames to support their counting and understanding which information makes a number sentence from word problems!
In literacy we read the story by Julia Donaldson called 'Tiddler', looking at the rhyming patterns yet continuing with our 'really wild' theme. The children made some great excuses for Tiddler being late for school drawing on their knowledge of sea creatures from the topic.
Thursday afternoon led to the next round of judging for the recycling home learning projects, where the year 1 winner, Logan with his curry making machine, won. They were all really great ideas from the children and executed brilliantly using recycled materials. Well done to everyone!
Today we started our day with a visit from Larry the Lobster, continuing with our ocean strand of the 'really wild' topic. The children were all fantastic with their questions and handling of the Lobster. I was very impressed with how brave they all were!
(Photos to follow... technical difficulties!)
We looked at the special event happening this weekend with the Royal Wedding and talked about guest who would attend. We looked at Prince Harry's family tree and how the heir to the throne works. The children then discussed and made their own family trees, remembering grandparents names very well indeed.
We celebrated Max's success with being class dojo winner this week for his readiness to learn. Well done.
I hope you all have a fantastic weekend and the lovely weather continues!
Next Friday as a treat to the children (and myself) I would like to hold a Teddy Bears Picnic Party in the afternoon. We will be treated to a scone or piece of cake with our Teddies and play some party games. Please could your child bring in a Teddy Bear/ soft toy for the picnic.
Thanks you,
Mrs Entwistle

Y1- Phonics talk on Tuesday
Just a reminder about the year 1 phonics screening talk which I will be holding on Tuesday morning in the hall. It would be good to get as many parents as possible to this talk please so that we can discuss how you can help your children at home with phonics.
It is great to hear that many of you have been reading alien words at home!

Y1- Sea creatures and sun catchers!
Today in Forest school the children made sun catchers. These looked brilliant held against the beautiful blue sky.
In literacy we started writing about sea creatures and used the book 'commotion in the ocean' as inspiration.
The children also got a chance to use the maths pages on purplemash and mathletics

Life Education Van and today!
Wow, what a busy and fun two days we have had!
Thursday started with a lovely visit from Noah's chicken. After completing our work last week on chickens, the children had a chance to get up close and personal! They really enjoyed being able to stroke her and ask lots of questions!
This was followed by 'The Life Education Van' which was amazing! The children were thoroughly engaged and highly motivated by the variety of activities they participated in. There lesson was based on the theme - I can eat a rainbow. Within this area of learning, the children learned about food groups, how they help our bodies and healthy portions a day. They learned some brilliant actions to help them remember the food groups. Can you child remember the action for Dairy (cheese as they brush their teeth) Carbohydrates (pasta makes us faster while running on the spot) Protein (say protein and flex their arm muscle) and Fruit and Veg (hey hey 5 a day). They also looked inside the body at organs and their role in digesting food and keeping our bodies healthy. They had a super time!
In Maths the children worked on fact families and inverse operations (addition and subtraction). We used numbers up to 20. For example; 15+5 = 20, 5+15 =20, 20- 5=15, 20-15 =5. Can your child find any fact families?
In Topic this week we learned about the 7 continents of the world and used the many postcards (thank you to all your friends and family for sending those in) to look at which continents they all came from. We learned a song to help us remember the continents based on the song 'We've got the whole world in our hands'. Can your child remember the song? I have sent home the postcards that had names on them for the children to keep. We still have lots here that we are going to use over the next few weeks that do not have names on. If you were expecting one back, please let me know and I will try to find it for you. Once again, thank you to all of you!
The children also completed a big write today for their Literacy work on 'really wild'. There were some amazing facts and sentences being written about all the different animals they have learned about this half term!
This weeks Dojo winner, with the most dojo points was Isaac. Well done!
I hope you have a fantastic weekend and look forward to seeing you back in our classroom next week!

Y1- Meerkat Mail and finally looking at the postcards!
We hope you had an amazing bank holiday and got to enjoy the glorious sunshine?! Can we remind you of the importance of water, sun hats and labelled sun cream please. The sun cream should be handed in to an adult and not left in your child’s bag.
This week we are working on the story of Meerkat Mail. A fantastic story about a meerkats journey around the world. We will get a chance of the next few weeks to look at all of the postcards that have been sent in (and there are lots!). We will of course give these back to you once we have finished with them, however some do not have who they know from the school. Thank you to everyone that has contacted family members and friends to send a card we have covered the globe I think!
In maths we will be focusing on our addition and subtraction facts and working on inverse number sentences such as 6+12=18 so 18-12=? We will also be using this to build up fact families on one sum. The children will be using their reading skills to work on word problems.

Y1- Working on the chromebooks!
Today Year 1 I bought in some information on rhinos. The children learnt about the 5 different types and the problems these creatures are facing. I showed the children some very special items that were linked to our learning. I wonder who can remember what they were and why I have them? Year 1 got to work on the new chromebooks. We started writing up our work on purplemash. This is something that we will carry on with tomorrow.
We will be in this temporary classroom for a few days so please continue to come in the main door in the morning and put your child's things away on their pegs. We will not open the classroom door until 8.45, then the children can put away drinks, snacks and book bags and sit down to their morning activities.
