Hi everyone, what a FANTASTIC start to the summer term we’ve been having in Year 1!
This week we’ve done our first ‘BIG WRITE’ of the term – our pirate adventure stories. We read The Night Pirates to help us prepare and had fun thinking about all the ‘adventurous’ things we could add into our stories. I’m sure the children have been excited to tell you about theirs. We have loved reading them and it’s great to see so many creative minds in our class.
In Maths we have finished up our unit on multiplication. We’ve been working really hard, but any extra help on this would go a long way, as next week we start on division which is closely linked to multiplication. We will be looking at sharing, so I’m sure there are lots of opportunities to practice this at home!
In Science we’ve been continuing with our topic of plants. We planted our radishes last week and are already starting to see shoots appearing. Hopefully, some might be ready to eat by half-term! This week we learnt about the parts of a plant and created our own plants to label, we were even allowed to write on the tables!
In Art we’re continuing to learn about Andy Warhol and Pop Art. I bet the children can tell you some fun facts about him.
We’ve also been learning about Jesus’ friends, the Disciples, this week and what it means to be a good friend, and thinking about how instructions are used in coding for computers.
It’s never a dull moment in Year 1!
Just a couple of reminders:
Please really try to practise those special friends at home. If you need any extra materials from us to help you, please do not hesitate to ask. The phonics screening tests are coming up.
As the weather gets warmer and we’re spending more time doing outdoor learning, please make sure your child comes to school with a sun hat.
Have a great weekend!
