Welcome back Year One

 Hello Year One Families

We have had a busy week of new learning in Year One this week. Our topic is called 'The Earth from above' and is a geography based topic.

In English we have been enjoying a new book called 'Look Up!' by Nathan Byron. We have used the story to investigate verbs (doing words) and the suffix -ing.

In maths we have started to learn about addition and subtraction within 20. This week we used our knowledge of number bonds to ten to help us work out the related number bonds to 20. This was quite tricky and we are going to spend some more time learning about this over the next week. If you would like to help at home then practicing number bonds to 10 would be really helpful. 😊

In art we visited the Tate Modern online and looked at art inspired by the season Winter. We focused on Paul Katz painting called "Winter Branch.' We used this to create our own piece of art work using charcoal and pencil. The children were so focused and really enjoyed the process.

In both Science and Geography we have been learning about the seasons, seasonal changes and seasonal weather. We used some sensory trays to help us think about what each season is like and explained what we knew about each season. We also completed a seasons quiz around the classroom and organised some seasonal pictures.

As you can see we have been learning lots of new things this week. I wonder what next week will bring?!

School trip tomorrow

 Hello Year One Families

Just a reminder that we will be meeting you at Waterstones at 9am tomorrow. For those children that come to breakfast club, staff will be walking you to Waterstones, leaving Pre-school at 8.30am.

We will be meeting an author and listening to her new book. We will then make our way to Dorchester library for a bit more book fun!

When we get back to school the children will change into their pyjamas they have put in their lockers already. Please try and make sure your child is traveling lightly as they will be carrying their bags back to school with them.

Space Cadet training complete!

 Hello Year One Families

The Year One Space Cadets were put through their paces today and fully embraced their astronaut training.

Training consisted of:

Making star constellations (with toothpicks and sweets).

Painting planets they saw in space.

Researching, using space books.

Walking on the moon using ginormous moon boots, looking for aliens, stars and planets.

Threading space debris using moon gloves.

Going on a space adventure in the deepest, darkest space.

It was tough! We had to persevere but we had so much fun!

Year One, your space mission is complete. We hope you enjoyed it as much as we did!
