Can you help Year One?

 Hello Year One families

We really hope you have had a fantastic Christmas and are looking forward to seeing in the New Year. We would like to say a big thank you for our gifts, they have all been enjoyed!

We look forward to welcoming you back on Tuesday 2nd January and we would like to ask for some help with our learning during the first week back.

We require lots and lots of recycling to help with our learning tasks, as follows:

Learning about 3D shapes (maths) - recycled materials that are in the shape of cubes, cuboids, pyramids, cones, cylinder and spheres.

Learning about what materials are made of (science) - recycled materials made out of metal, glass, wood, material and plastic.

We welcome all and everything you have. The more we have, the more fun it will be! Bin bags at the ready!

We would love these items on our first day back please. Remember all items should be clean and not be sharp.

Thank you and we will see you all on Tuesday.

The Year One Team.

A Victorian Christmas at the Shire Hall

 Hello Year One Families

We have had the most wonderful trip to the Shire Hall today for a Victorian Christmas. We went on a treasure hunt around the cells and the courtroom, looking for the pictures that make up the 12 days of Christmas, as well as festive mice. We even had a go at singing the song. We also made Victorian Christmas decorations called cornucopias, as well as peg angels which the children have bought home.

In the second half of our trip we listened to what Christmas was like in Victorian times and found out that Prince Albert (Queen Victoria's husband) started the tradition of bringing in and decorating a Christmas tree into our homes. We also learnt that the Victorian's put real candles on their Christmas trees until electricity was invented! We listened to a Christmas story called 'Christmas Cobwebs' which was lovely. We also made our own Victorian Christmas card and we were super impressed with the children's writing inside.

It really was a magical Christmas day at the Shire Hall and the children thoroughly enjoyed themselves. We imagine they might be a bit tired tonight as they have been on their feet for most of the day! The Year Team are definitely in need of a hot bath and a hot chocolate tonight!

Well done Year One for being great ambassadors for the Prince of Wales School today. You were amazing.
