E-Books

In Computing today with Mr Spracklen, Y1 were seeking to understand the differences between traditional books and e-books.

We also explored the tools in '2Create a Story' to start creating our own e-book -

We look forward to building on this work next week.

Welcome back! Week 1 in Y1

 Hello Year One Families

Welcome back Year One!

We have started a new book called 'The Comet' as part of our English lessons which the children are really enjoying. They have been busy learning about nouns, adjectives and imperative verbs (aka bossy words!). This week the children have spent time writing to Nyla, the main character to reassure her that moving house will be ok. They have also written descriptive sentences about Nyla's house. The children are working particularly hard on presentation and sentence structure: full stops, capital letters and finger spaces.

Our science and geography have linked closely this week and we have been discussing the weather and the seasons. The children had great fun with sensory trays. We had sand, grass, ice and weetabix in them and we used them to help remind us about each season. The children used describing words to talk about what they knew about each season. In case you were wondering the weetabix represented walking through crunchy leaves in the spring time!

In PE, Miss Johnson has begun a unit of dance. The children practiced and learnt some robot dance moves to Daft Punk's Harder, Better, Stronger, Faster (in case you wanted a rerun at home!).

In art, the children have been learning about primary and secondary colours and practicing their colour mixing skills and knowledge. They have also learnt about the artist Wassily Kandinsky and used their colour mixing palette to create some abstract art.

Home learning:

The children have bought home their new maths learning, leading on from the Mastering Number Parent Workshop. Please use the resources that were provided to complete the home learning over the next 5 weeks. Any questions please do ask and we are happy to top up any resources that may have been misplaced.

Have a great weekend and see you all on Monday.

Year 1 are out of this world! 🪐

Hello Year One families

What a wonderful end to our history topic on space we have had today. The children took part in some astronaut training which involved:

Reading space books (for research)

Making star constellations using sweets and cocktail sticks (so they knew what the stars were when they looked outside their rocket ship).

Painting planets they saw in the sky

Going on a space adventure with Ms Dainton

Using space gloves to pick up unidentified objects.

Look at the 'space debris' at the back of this photo! We hope everyone went home with what they were supposed to at the end of the day today!!

It was an extremely busy but fun day!

Have a wonderful half term holiday and we will see you on Monday 19th February for more fun.
