Thank you
Thank you all for your cards, gifts, and lovely messages. We have all been touched by your kindness and generosity.
It is so lovely to be appreciated but we do what we do because we love your children and their happiness, well being and progress are what motivate us.
We will always be here for you and your child as they move through the school and after this unique year you will always hold a very special place in our hearts.
We hope you enjoy a lovely summer.
Lots of love,
The year 1 team. xx

Last day of year 1
I can't believe we only have one day of this academic year left. It has been an absolute pleasure working with and getting to know you and your lovely children. Your children have impressed and inspired me with their positivity, resilience and adaptability. Since first working with them in January, I have observed them all become more confident, make progress in their learning and thrive despite all the challenges they have faced.
Thank you, parents and carers for welcoming me into year 1 and for your open communication with me, which was particularly impressive given the short time we knew each other before lockdown. Collaboration between teachers and parents and carers is always important but this year it has been especially so. This year feels like a parent /teacher team effort and I think we can all be proud of how we rose to the challenges of virtual school.
To the children:
We love each and every one of you and we are so proud of what you have achieved this year. Thank you for the laughter, fun, dancing and fabulous questions and stories.
Remember, Mrs Barrow, Mrs Bernard and Mrs Howell will be with you in class. Miss Street and Mrs Cura will be next door and me and Mrs Rogers will be just be two doors down in year 4.
Wherever we are, remember that we will always be here for you.
Lots of love,
Ms Browne, Mrs Cura, Mrs Barrow, Mrs Howell, Mrs Bernard & Mrs Rogers. xx

Last few weeks of learning
Last week the children had a lovely time exploring the garden and forest school areas, experimenting with clay techniques and experiencing different styles of music. They also wrote their own stories about the fire of London and started calculating halves and quarters of shapes and numbers.
This week
With only two weeks left until the end of term I have made a few changes to our learning to maximise the time we have together and to prepare the kingdoms for year two as much as possible. In Power maths we will be focusing on numbers as an important skill preparation for year 2 so we will be skipping to Unit 16: Numbers to 100.
In Literacy we will be focusing on building, rehearsing and writing sentences (with appropriate punctuation) using the traditional tale Little Red Little Riding Hood as a stimulus for our writing. In addition to revising RWI speed sounds and associated words we will also be giving the kingdoms opportunities to practise their handwriting and develop their comprehension skills.
On Monday afternoon we will be joining the Museum for London's live stream about the Fire of London. If you are at home you are still welcome to join in at 2 - 2.30pm. Families can access the stream via facebook. For more information click here.
On Wednesday the year 1 Kingdoms will have their sports afternoon with Mr Treble. Please could all children come to school in trainers and clothing that allows them to move freely.
Last week you should have received your child's school report. If you have any questions or would like to discuss any aspect of it, please let me know.
I hope you all have a restful weekend,
Kind regards,
The Year 1 Team
