Last few weeks of learning

Hello everyone,

Last week the children had a lovely time exploring the garden and forest school areas, experimenting with clay techniques and experiencing different styles of music. They also wrote their own stories about the fire of London and started calculating halves and quarters of shapes and numbers.

This week

With only two weeks left until the end of term I have made a few changes to our learning to maximise the time we have together and to prepare the kingdoms for year two as much as possible.

In Power maths we will be focusing on numbers as an important skill preparation for year 2 so we will be skipping to Unit 16: Numbers to 100.

In Literacy we will be focusing on building, rehearsing and writing sentences (with appropriate punctuation) using the traditional tale Little Red Little Riding Hood as a stimulus for our writing. In addition to revising RWI speed sounds and associated words we will also be giving the kingdoms opportunities to practise their handwriting and develop their comprehension skills.

On Monday afternoon we will be joining the Museum for London's live stream about the Fire of London. If you are at home you are still welcome to join in at 2 - 2.30pm. Families can access the stream via facebook. For more information click here.

On Wednesday the year 1 Kingdoms will have their sports afternoon with Mr Treble. Please could all children come to school in trainers and clothing that allows them to move freely.

Last week you should have received your child's school report. If you have any questions or would like to discuss any aspect of it, please let me know.

I hope you all have a restful weekend,
Kind regards,

The Year 1 Team
