The week in Year One

 Hello Year One families

We started the week with a PE session with Mr Treble where we practiced our skills ready for sports day (Wednesday 5th July).  Thank you for topping up with suncream and providing sun hats, we certainly needed them this week!

In maths this week we have been learning about position and direction. This included half and quarter turns, left and right, forwards and backwards. We did this in lots of different practical ways practicing the language they had been taught.  The children loved directing me to the cakes on our new leaf carpet!!

In our computing lesson we learnt about how to make a simple spreadsheet. The children followed the instructions really well and created their own spreadsheets.  They can do this on Purple mash 2 calculate if they want to have another go at home.

In science we continued our learning about flowers by carefully drawing and labelling a flower from our school grounds. The children took such care and time over this and produced some lovely work.

The children also enjoyed an afternoon with Miss White on Thursday, which they thoroughly enjoyed. They will be doing this every Thursday for the next 5 weeks so they will be ready to start Year Two with confidence.

Biscuit Club:

Don't forget biscuit club (AKA phonics screening test) starts on Monday. The children will spend a small amount of time reading some phonic words with me and will enjoy a biscuit and some squash for doing their best. EVERYONE wants to come to biscuit club!!

Wishing you all a wonderful weekend.
