Hello Year One Families,
What an absolutely smashing week Year One had!
We thoroughly enjoyed our time with Zoo Lab on Wednesday, the children displayed their knowledge regarding animal classification, asked curious and inquisitive questions and bravely touched, held or stroked a variety of animals.
We have started a new book focus in English- Dragon Post and we will be learning the key features of a letter this week- by the end of the unit we will be writing letters to the Fire Service for advice on how to manage a fire breathing dragon living in our homes!
In Geography we have completed our focus on the continents and have explored the five Oceans this week- The children blew me away on Friday when they correctly named all five oceans and all seven continents- Fantastic work year one!
In our Quest time we have been exploring building animal homes, British wildlife, animals of the ocean and designing dangerous animals!
We have continued our focus on Numbers to ten in Maths and have introduced the symbols < > = Greater Than, Less Than and Equals to, we will continue to explore this area this week.
Year One have thoroughly enjoyed their time in Music this half term and all children have worked hard to understand pulse and rhythm and they all know so many facts about our cultural capital composer Vivaldi- perhaps try listening to The Four Seasons at home!
Over the next two weeks, we will be exploring the different layers of the ocean with a fantastic submarine adventure, completing our letters in English and starting a new Art focus on Printing!
Year One have a trip to Thomas Hardy on Wednesday and a trip to Maiden Castle Farm next Thursday. We celebrate the end of this first half term with our Harvest Celebration.
I am looking forward to discussing your child's progress with you at Parents Consultations on Tuesday and Wednesday of this week.
I am very pleased to introduce the newest member of the Year One team Mr Cooper. Mr Cooper has joined us as he completes his teacher training. We are delighted to have him come on our Year one Adventure until early March. As someone who spent some of their initial teaching training in Year One at The Prince of Wales I know what a valuable experience this can be for both children and the adults in class.
As ever please do get in touch if there is anything you would like to discuss.
Ms Evans and the Year One Team.
