YR1 Week 24.4.17 This Week

Welcome back to the first half of the Summer Term.

Wow what a week we have had so far! Yesterday the children had fun finding out about wildlife in the school grounds with some expert volunteers from the R.S.P.B. We found a wide variety of mini-beasts! The R.S.P.B will be returning on Friday, so if your child has anything they want to ask them they will have the opportunity to do so.

This half term we are going to be concentrating on writing Poetry and Instructions in Literacy. As our topic in Science is Animals we will also be linking a lot of our writing to this. We have started learning about animals this week to tie into the R.S.P.B visit. We have been learning about invertebrates and vertebrates and will continue to discuss different groups of animals this week.

This week in Maths we have explored more place value and today we have been drawing pictograms and we will be interpreting graphs for the rest of the week.

On Monday, Autumn and Winter, started Forest School with Paula, which was a great opportunity for the children. These children will do Forest School every Monday until half term, so please make sure they have appropriate clothing with them, as stated in the letter sent home before the Easter holidays.

A visit to Hooke by Mrs Mewett!

Well I headed out yesterday to visit the children and staff. I arrived to find the children, enjoying the afternoon sun, playing games together, and looking super happy! They were all also enjoying the food and especially the bedroom sharing, most were telling me this was their favourite part!
The final activity of the day presented us with an evening walk into the woods and spotting signs of nature. The children behaved really well and walked 3 miles before back to base - all kept up too!
They all slept so well again - then up and eating another yummy breakfast. I know the Year 4 team have been particularly proud of how well the Year 4 children are clearing away and tidying up their plates, etc in the lunch hall.  The other schools from DASP there are learning from our children, super!
I know they will come tired back to you today but I wanted to say how very proud we are of their caring attitude and thoughtfulness in supporting each other while away. All children are giving all the activities 100% and making friends with other schools too.

A super combination of successfulness, and for that we owe thanks to you!

Well done!

 

Well done to Year 1 and a super assembly this morning. I heard from other school children and staff that it was a super effort with lots of confident children performing really well. Well done also to Miss Kinkead for her first class assembly!
I send my apologies as I have been on the Year 4 residential at Hooke where just like Year 1, the children are proudly representing our school.

YR1 Assembly this Friday

This is just a reminder that our assembly will be this Friday! It will start at about 9.15am and will last about 30 minutes. It is great opportunity to see your children perform, so we look forward to seeing you there.

Your child took home their lines to practise tonight so please make sure they are learning them at home!

YR1 3.4.17 Week Ahead

Next week is looking to be a very exciting week! 

First thing on Monday we are going to the Farm, which means your child needs to arrive wearing a waterproof coat, school top, old trousers and wellies.  We also advise your child to bring spare bottoms (perhaps their uniform) as well, just in case we don’t get lovely spring sunshine. We still need adult helpers so if you are free please just turn up on Monday morning ready. Thank you!

On Friday we have got our class assembly and as I am sure you are aware you are welcome to come and watch. After you drop your children off on Friday you can wait in the hall and our assembly should start at about 9.15am and will last approximately 30 minutes. If other family members wish to come that is fine also, but we do have a limit on space.  

Your child’s literacy learning this week will focus on drama in preparation for their assembly. This will heavily connect with music also. Please support your child at home by encouraging them to practise their lines for the assembly and challenge them to raise their voice whilst speaking. 

In Maths we are continuing to explore number with a particular emphasis on counting in 2s,5s and 10s and consolidating your child’s number bond skills. Additionally, we will be sequencing days of the week and the months of the year and solving word number problems. 

Thank you to all the parents who have supported Year 1 in the afternoons over the last few weeks, whilst they have been making puppets! I am can happily announce all of Year 1 have made a puppet and they are truly very individual. We look forward to showcasing them on Friday in our assembly.

Thank you also to all those parents who have supported The Big Pedal over the last two weeks. We have been keeping score and our class record was 23.

Please continue to practise phonics with your child and to read with them as often as you can.

Concerns over parking

As you are all aware, the school is fortunate to have a wide range of parking areas in its proximity. Due to the school's opening time, there is sufficient time for all parents and carers to access the  school grounds with their child in a safe manner.

Yet again it has come to the school's attention of what has been described as dangerous driving and also parking which is obstructing pedestrian walkways and crossings. This cannot continue.

We ask all members of our school community to follow the markings and ultimately think about road safety for our families too. Only a few months ago was there an accident outside a school in Weymouth.

The governing body are now looking into further action to be taken, the local Police team are also aware of this issue and are providing assistance with this matter.

Lambing Trip 3rd April 2017

Our lambing trip is coming up on the Monday 3^rd April, we will need at least 3 or 4 more adults to join us. Please let a member of the Year 1 team know if you can come as soon as possible.

We will leave straight after the register and we will be back for 12pm.
