The Jolly Postman and other letters ...

Following our mystery letter from The Jolly Postman we have been looking at the story. We have made lists of characters and replied to some of the letters in the story.

 

In geography we have been looking on google maps and located our houses. We have used the idea of a picture map to make our own maps. The children split into two groups and made the maps. On Friday we exchanged maps and each group followed the clues to the mystery house.

 

In maths this week the children learnt about number bonds using numicon and number lines. 

 

 

 

 

Our mystery letter...

This afternoon we had a package delivered from the Jolly Postman. He asked us to help him to deliver a card as he had ran out of time! We followed the picture clues to the mystery address and delivered the letter!

Big write success!

Yesterday the children spent just over 30 minutes writing their own adapted stories of the 3 little pigs using their story maps. It was fantastic to see all of the children concentrating for this whole period of time. The relaxing music and lighting definitely helped!

 

Money, money, money!

We are carrying on learning about money this week. The children are working really hard to add and subtract using money and have been making different amounts using a range of coins.
We have spoken about how many pennies you need to make the same amount of money as the coins.

Next time you are in the shops or at home sorting out your change maybe you could let them sort the coins out?

Literacy this week

This week we will be doing something called the 'Big Write'. In Literacy we have been learning about the story of the three little pigs. This week with the help of our story maps we will be changing the characters in the story and then the children will sit down and have a set amount of time to write. This is a good time to use everything that they have learnt over the last few weeks in their writing.

At home maybe you could discuss well know characters in books. Are they good or bad characters? What happens in traditional tales?

Well done!

A huge well done to all of the children for a fantastic assembly! They all delivered their lines clearly and with confidence.

Friday saw the end to our British week. As well as our remembrance poems we also learnt about money and Suffragettes and Suffragists.

Thank you to everyone who donated money for Children in Need and bought cakes, it was very successful.

British week plans

This week is our British themed week. Tomorrow morning Year 1 and Year 4 will be teaming up to write remembrance poems. We will also be making a poppy collage.

 

 

We will be learning about important British people in the History of our country such as Millicent Fawcett and Emmeline Pankhurst. We will be discussing British values and the origins of our national flag and money.

 

 

On Thursday afternoon from 3pm you are all invited in to Year 1 to read the remembrance poems and see their poppy art work.
