Y1 30.9.16- Information about Harvest week and home learning

Next week we will be having a 'food to fork'/harvest themed week. The children will be making harvest art work, cooking and learning about farms and harvest in India. We will be having visitors in on Tuesday and learn about Indian traditions; everyone will be helping to make a piece of art work. You are invited in on Friday to our Harvest assembly at 9.15am where the children will sing their Harvest song. Then at 2.30pm you can come in to school and take your child to the Harvest cafe to taste some of the delicious food the classes have been making.
All of the children have been set some home learning today. They have all come out with the sheet. A copy of the home learning is below.

Year 1 home learning- to be handed in by Monday 10th October please

Choose one of the pictures. Cut it out and stick it on a new piece of paper. Now choose one of the activities:
·        Draw labels and descriptions of what you can see.
·        Write a sentence to say- Who do you think lives here? What do they look like? How do they get in their home?
·        What is the castle made of? How do you think they made it? (if it is on the water or on a hill)
·        If you’re feeling really creative you could write a story!
Please work with your child on this piece of writing. We encourage the children to spell using their phonics mat, have cursive writing and use capital letters and full stops.

If you have any questions about this please come and see us next week.

Have a lovely weekend!

Y1 30.9.16- Praise assembly

The children that were praised in assembly today were-
Jasper- for persevering with his cursive p in handwriting practice
Emilie + Imogen for being conscientious learners in writing.
Abel for his fantastic neat cursive handwriting
Alyce- for being a resilient tortoise with her maths

We have had a big focus on handwriting this week and I have noticed now that the children are thinking more about how they form their letters

Y1 28.9.16- Our trip to the building site

Year 1 has had a fantastic morning on a building site! We learnt how to build walls using bricks and mortar. All of the builders on the site were so impressed with the dedication that everyone had and the walls that they built!

After we built the walls we went for a tour around two houses that had been built. We were proud of all of the children today, they walked brilliantly and I am sure they will be tired tonight!

Y1 23.9.16- Autumn farm trip!

Year 1 had fabulous weather in the end for their Autumn farm trip. Hazel explained about all of the animals that they have on the farm and their different houses. The children saw the cows, sheep, chickens and even the pig houses. Today in Literacy they will be writing about these and comparing them to their own.

Next week we will be going on a trip to Poundbury. The children will get a chance to see houses being built and have a go at building a wall. If you can help on this trip please let us know. We aim to leave school at around 9.20am and be back for lunch by 1 o'clock at the latest.
