Marwell Zoo and the week ahead

Hi Year One Families

Year One had a fantastic day at Marwell Zoo on Friday! The children were absolute stars travelling on the coach – chatting and  spotting interesting things out of the window, and even enjoying a little nap on the way home!

Once at the zoo, we had a wonderful time exploring and discovering so many amazing animals. The children were especially fascinated by the giraffes, who towered above us, and the rhinos, we also saw pygmy hippos, a tiger, and a whole variety of brightly coloured birds. The children showed great curiosity, asked thoughtful questions, and represented our school beautifully throughout the day.

Looking forward, we will be starting some exciting new learning in class:

  • In Maths, our new topic is Addition within 10. We’re using practical resources and number stories to explore different ways to make and represent numbers.

  • In English, we will read I Want My Hat Back by Jon Klassen. The children  wil enjoy the story’s humour and mystery as we think about how the characters feel and what might happen next.

  • In Art, the children are continuing to create their sculptures for our upcoming “Whispers of Winter” Exhibition, experimenting with texture, form, and materials to bring their winter ideas to life.

  • In RE, we are beginning a new topic focusing on Judaism. The children will be learning about Jewish beliefs, special celebrations, and important symbols.

A huge thank you to all the parents who attended the Mastering Number session on Thursday. Over the next few weeks, home learning will focus on these important number skills — please see your child’s Mastering Number pack for activities and ideas to try at home.

Finally, a reminder that PE is on Mondays – please make sure your child has their PE kit in school.

Please do get in touch if there is anything you would like to discuss.

Ms Evans and the Year One Team.

Unfortunatly the ipad has not updated all the photos of the Zoo, so here is a small selection, I will add more tomorrow
