Y1 11.11.16- Arrrrrr what a good show!

The DASP music group came in this morning and led us on a pirate adventure to find all of the musical clues to the sailors' Hornpipe. We listened to music from around the world from countries such as Denmark, Hungary, France and even music from under the sea! We collected all the music and at the end they played the song which was fascinating to listen to!!

Y1- 8.11.16- Look at what we 'discovered' today!

Today Year 1 'discovered' some purple eggs at the round house area. There were four eggs altogether, two were empty and two felt like they were full. We decided to take them back to the classroom. The children then answered the following questions-
-What animal do you think will hatch out?
-Where do you think they came from?
-How did they get there?
-Where are the animals that have already hatched?

We had some fascinating and imaginative ideas from golden eagles to komodo dragons! We have put them safely away in the warm quiet room and look forward to seeing if they have hatched tomorrow!

Y1 8.11.6- The Jolly Postman.

This week in our Geography/ topic sessions we are looking at our local area. Yesterday the children used google maps to locate a local building by only using the postcode (Dorset County Museum). After we had discussed what a postcode is and why everyone has one the children used their own postcodes to locate their houses on google maps.

After break time we had a surprise mystery letter delivered by 'the Jolly Postman' who asked us to deliver the letter for him. We had to use the picture clues to find the house and deliver the letter. Half of the class did this yesterday and the other half will do this on Thursday. Over the next few weeks we will be making our own picture maps of the local housing estate and so will be taking short walks to enrich our learning in this topic and to use our observational skills.

Whilst half of the class were on an adventure the rest of the class stayed with Mrs Hall and started to learn a medieval dance similar to that which a King or Queen would have danced in a banquet in a castle! We will be looking at the banquets traditions, music, food and clothing.

Y1 5.11.16- This week in Year 1...

This week in Year 1 we have been thinking about Bonfire Night. The children wrote a set of safety rules that everyone needs to be aware of if they are watching a fireworks display. Then we watched a number of videos and looked at pictures of fireworks. Using their senses the children wrote adjectives in their pairs about what they may see, hear, smell and feel on Bonfire Night. The following day they used these adjectives to write a firework senses poem. The poems were fantastic!

In Maths this week we have been looking at 2D and 3D shapes and their properites. The children have been counting the faces, edges and corners of the shapes. We also have a couple of very catchy songs that we listen to!

Apologies for not putting out a board on Friday afternoon about Forest Schools. Forest School will start on Monday for Spring and Summer group. Please can we have long sleeve tops, fleeces, trousers, water proof coats (trousers if you have them) and wellingtons in school. These ideally will be kept in school for the 5/6 weeks but if you can't spare the clothes then please do take them every week. It is very cold at the moment so hats would also be beneficial.

We hope you have a great weekend and enjoy any fireworks you go to see.

All Years - Christmas Cards - 2nd November 2016

Christmas card orders
We received communication today that the online ordering for the xmas cards has now failed completely. The company are reverting to paper orders and a pack is being sent to school. As far as we are aware any successful online orders are still valid but all others will need to complete paper order forms and bring money to school. This is not an ideal situation however POWSA are at hand to help you solve any issues and can take cash or cheques.

So, on Friday 4 th November and Monday 7 th November before and after school POWSA will be manning a table in the foyer where you can fill in the order forms and hand over cash or cheques.  We apologise for this inconvenience, however this is out of our control and are working hard to make the process successful!

Y1- 1.11.16- Marvellous castle home learning

A huge well done to all of Year 1 children that put in so much effort in to their home learning. This afternoon the children shared their creations with their friends and explained how they made them. We really were so impressed with them all and we have had so many comments about them in the display area (just outside of the class room by the hall).

This morning in PE the children used the large equipment in the hall to show how they could balance. They had to move in different ways through, up and over the equipment and show their skills.

Christmas card orders

Hopefully you have all received your child’s card design? You were given the information to order through the company directly on the back of the art work. The art work needs to come back to school to your child’s classroom, into their envelope - by Friday 4th November end of this week, ready to be sent off.

The company will be collecting on Monday 7th November from our school office, no set time has been given so it is vitally important the art work is back in the class envelope on Friday please.

We are hoping for the cards to be delivered back to school around 22nd November.
