The builders yard - todays adventure!

 Hello Year One Families

Todays adventure was at the builders yard. Once again the children got to explore the resources and use their ideas to build a range of amazing things. We had an aeroplane which took us to different continents and over oceans (lots of geography knowledge used), cars, a trap to catch the shush, houses, a cabin, a den and so much more. It was great to see the children sharing ideas, working together as a team and building on their prior learning.

The characteristics of effective learning were once again put into use with the children exploring and playing, actively learning; showing motivation and developing their own ideas.

Another successful learning experience in our fab new outdoor learning space. Thanks again to POWSA for funding these wonderful new resources. I wonder what tomorrow will bring . . . . .?

Water World - Thank you POWSA

 Hello Year One Families

We are very excited about the new resources that have arrived for our outside area.

THANK YOU POWSA!

Today we investigated Water World! The children were shown the possibilities of the new resources and loved exploring and finding out how they worked and what they could do. This allows the children to use skills such as problem solving, investigation and perseverance. These skills are so important to develop children's characteristics of effective learning, particularly creative and critical thinking and to support them in making links to subjects such as design technology, science and so much more.

Tomorrow we are going to explore our new Builders Yard (if the weather is on our side!) Look out for the photos . . .

Wet and windy market morning

 Hello Year One Families

What a wonderful, wet and windy market day visit we had today. We braved the weather and made our way to the market to buy some fruit for our smoothies. When we got to the market we spent some time looking around and finding what might be good to buy. Once Mrs March had given us a ten pound note we set about buying fruit. What a wonderful array we bought!

We made it back to school rather soggy but smiling, laughing and having had a great adventure. Thank you to the parents that joined us on the trip.

The rather damp, Year One Team

Don't forget we are off to Dorchester Market tomorrow. The weather looks a bit windy and wet so please make sure your child has a raincoat and wet weather clothing for our walk to and from the market.

This week in Year One

 Hello Year One families

Once again it has been a busy week in Year One. Not only have we squeezed in a visit to the zoo and 'zoomed' with a sculptor we have also been busy claiming our counters for our play projects.

This week the focus has been on:

Animals and where they live and the seven continents

Making animal enclosures in construction

Developing fine motor skills by using toothbrushes to clean the animals

Splatting teen numbers with friends

Accurately counting shells into egg boxes.

Writing in a variety of ways by: leaving messages in chalk, completing a clipboard challenge linked to science, writing welcome notes to Mr Benn.

The staff in Year One work and play alongside the children whilst they are completing the play projects, teaching children subject specific knowledge, skills and language. The children are learning through play, just the way we like it!

Farm and Market visits:

We are visiting the farm on Tuesday 27th September from 10.10am until 12.30pm and Dorchester Market on Wednesday 5th October (in the morning). If you would like to come and help on either of these trips please do let me know.

Next week we start our faith, food and farming fortnight with lots of exciting learning happening.
