Hello Year One families
We have had a very exciting and varied week in Year One.
In maths we are continuing to learn about numbers to 20. We found estimating and finding numbers on a number line quite tricky this week so we had an extra lesson to try and unpick this a bit more. We used a very long rope and some whiteboards to mark out different numbers on a very large number line. This helped the children to visually track where the numbers went. They talked to a partner about their estimates and used great maths language to explain where different numbers should go: like 1 more and 1 less. When the children went back to the classroom to have another go they had a much better understanding. Great maths work Year One!
In English we have been planning our own stories about a planet and its inhabitants. The children have thought of some great ideas about what is going to happen in their story. I can't wait to see what they write next week. We have been thinking about interesting adjectives and continue to work hard at sounding outa and remember full stops, capital letters and finger spaces when writing sentences..
In History the children have been learning about Katherine Johnson, a famous scientist and how she helped NASA with the space flights.
We have now designed some wonderful moon buggies in DT and can't wait to start building them in our Wheeled Wonder Event next Thursday. We hope to see you there!
Amongst all of this we got to enjoy the snow!
And to end the week we had visit from Dragon Works.
Another wonderful week in Year One.
The Year One Team.
Don't forget:
Please join us for our Wheeled Wonder Parent Event at 2.30pm on Thursday 26th January 2023.
