Y1- Can you help name an owl???

This morning we listened to Martin from Xtreme Falconry talk about birds of prey. He bought in a number of birds including a barn owl, falcon, hawk and even a bald eagle! (She was huge). The children learnt about the different types of birds and what they eat. The children knew the word for birds that come out at night but can they remember what the day birds are called?
Martin explained about how this beautiful hawk uses its tail as a brake.

We met this rather impressive bald eagle called Winnie. Her wing span was massive!

We also met this baby Indian eagle owl who was 4 weeks old. This was his first trip out. Martin said that we could name him. We need to think of a name that begins with a B so get those thinking hats on. Any ideas please comment on the blog or even better get your child to draw a picture of one of the birds and their ideas underneath and we can send them to Martin. He has a wildlife sanctuary opening soon at West Stafford which will be a haven for rescued birds.

In other news.... we also had Henry (which is Florence's tortoise) visit us for the day!

Just a reminder that it is Autumn and Winters forest school now which is every Monday. There were quite a few children without their clothes for this today. Thank you for everyone who is contacting relatives abroad, we have had a great response from all over the world! Also it is the year 1 parent information session on Wednesday am in the hall from 9am.
