  Hello all,

WOW what an amazing time we have been having in Year One. We have been so busy with all of our learning and are now in our Farming Fortnight!

We have just finished our first Unit in Power Maths and are now moving on to learning about the part-whole method. In Literacy we have started to look at sentence building and this week we are writing a postcard to the Zoo to ask for our favourite animal. Art has been lots of fun and today we made our own animal sandwiches which turned out AMAZING!! We have been working hard at learning our RWI sounds and will be starting to learn our Harvest Song. In Science we have been learning all about our bodies and what job each part does.

This week we also have our trip to the farm on Friday morning. Please can we ensure that all children bring in wellies and coats. If they also want to bring in waterproof trousers this is fine. I know most children have their wellies in school which is super, however, if they do not please can you send them in on Friday.

Quick reminder about reading books that are sent home in books bags. Each child will bring home a reading book on a Friday and we ask they bring these back the following Friday for us to give them a new book. All books brought back will be put into a box for 72 hours before being put back.

Another home learning task will be sent home at the end of this week...keep an eye on the blog for this! A letter will also be coming home regarding a trip to Marwell Zoo.

Thank you for your continued support!

Non-school uniform day, reading books and home learning!

 Hello everyone!

WOW! What a busy week we have had in Year One this week. In Power Maths we have continued to look at numbers up to 10 and today we have learnt all about our snap-o-diles that always eat the greater number, but can sometimes get confused and present themselves as an equals sign if the numbers are the same. In Literacy we have been learning about the placement of capital letters, full stops and also touched on adjectives. In Science we have continued to learn about animals including humans and how they all fit into different animal groups. All children made an AMAZING paper plate animal that will be coming home soon.

Tomorrow is non-school uniform day and the theme is KEY WORKERS! Please send your children dressed in as a key worker if you choose to, if not, non-school uniform is fine. I know a few children said they wanted to go as Mr Bascombe!

Also, this week we have been assessing the children in RWI and reading books suited to their ability will be coming home tomorrow along with some home learning. This home learning is not compulsory, however it will be focused on letter formation, number formation, formation of words and other activities.

I've also got a challenge for you! The sounds we have been focusing on in RWI are .....ay, ee, igh, ow, oo, ar, or, air and ir. Could you child bring in an object that has this sound in it. I look forward to seeing what you come up with! Or they could also bring in an object beginning with the sound 'm,a,s,d,t,i,n,p,g.

Thank you for your continued support, I am loving teaching your children!

First week back!

WOW!! What an amazing first week back we have had in Year One. I can't describe how incredibly proud I am of each and every child in the class. Not only have they settled back into school life and a new classroom, they have shown such AMAZING attitudes to learning.

We have been very busy in the Year One classroom and have dived into our topic this week. There have been many different Literacy based activities completed. Which have included activities such as, matching the animal to the name and copying the name of the animal, creating our own zoo, using magnetic letters to copy animal names and also a role playing area where the children had to imagine they were the zoo animals. In Maths we have started to look at numbers 0-10 and we even turned into jumping frogs that could only count backwards! We have also made cup animals in Art which will be on display in the classroom within the next couple of days...photos to follow on that!

Just a few quick reminders..please can you all make sure that your child is coming into school with a healthy snack and water bottle daily. Also, please can you check that all clothes/shoes are labelled. The door to the Year One classroom will not be open until 8:45, if you are earlier than this please ensure you are sticking to the social distancing rules whilst waiting.

Please could you all check for a top that may not be your child's in their bag as one child today lost their school top. We checked all lockers but still could not find it. If you do find it, please bring it in tomorrow.

We are still looking at booking the zoo. HOWEVER, restrictions are changing again so we will be checking on this with the zoo. We will update you as soon as we can.

Thank you all for your continued support!
