Information about the trip to Radipole tomorrow!

The weather is not meant to be great tomorrow and I've had a few parents/carers ask me if we are still going on our trip. The trip is still on, so we are going! If the weather is really bad tomorrow we will rethink this.

I know a lot of children already have their wet gear in the classroom. However, if you know they don't please send them in with wet gear as I have a feeling we might get a bit wet! If you want to send in any extra clothes or send the children in with different trousers then please do! As long as they have their school tops on!

Please also remember to send in water bottles and snacks.

Any questions about this trip please email me.

Last week and upcoming reminders!

I can't quite believe we are heading into our final two weeks of the first term of year 1...time really does fly when you are having fun!

We are all really enjoying the christmas buzz around the classroom at the moment and we have had a brilliant week for writing!! Having the hall decorated as Arctic Airways really has inspired each and every child to produce some fantastic writing!

Again, we have had a very busy week in Year 1. We have come to the end of our Unit in Power Maths and will be moving onto 2D and 3D shapes this week. In Science we have been learning about evergreen and deciduous trees. We also took part in an elf science investigation this week which involved finding out whether bigger or smaller marshmallows take longer to melt in hot chocolate.

Coming up this week we have our trip to Radipole, which I know we are all very excited for. With this in mind please can you ensure children are coming in with warm coats, gloves and scarves if they want to.

We also have Christmas technology day on Friday where children will be taking part in 3 sessions across the day making different christmas crafts. It is also christmas jumper day on Friday! We also have the Christmas Fayre where the children will be singing a song in front of the tree. Lyrics should have come home with the children on Friday so please get practicing.

Also, apologies for home learning not coming home on Friday. This will be sent home tomorrow!

We are missing lots of RWI books. Please can you have a look around your house to see if you have any laying about. If children don't bring these back in we will not be able to send any more home.

As always, any questions please catch me in the morning or after school.

YOUR CHILDREN ARE SUPERSTARS!

I want to start this blog by saying a HUGE well done to all the children for their class assembly. They were amazing and so confident! I am sure you are just as proud as I am!! Thank you to you also for helping with their lines at home, this really made a difference!

I am so excited for the special surprise that will be happening tomorrow, and it's been great to see some of the children opening their envelopes on the posts that Mr Spracklen has been adding on facebook. Trust me, you are in for a magical surprise tomorrow morning!

These next three weeks are going to be a whirlwind and we have so many exciting and magical things planned! I hope you're ready!!

Just a reminder, it is ELF DAY on Friday! Dressing up is optional, however, it would be lovely to see lot's of children dressed as elves if you can!

Here are some pictures of the learning we have been doing in the classroom last week.

Thank you again as always for being so supportive!

Class assembly!

Hi everyone, hope you're all having a great week.
Please can you make sure you are practising your children's lines with them at home for our class assembly. They do not need to learn their lines (if they can this would be great but don't worry if not), they just need to be able to read these confidently. I know some lines have quite tricky words in, but I know all children can deliver these lines amazingly!

Also, we are encouraging all children to take part in the home learning activity this week. The activity is to make a poster or placard about how to fight climate change! Please can you bring these in at the latest Friday morning. Thank you to those who have already brought these into school!

Our assembly will start around 9:15. Once you have dropped your children off please make your way to the hall.

Any questions, please let me know!

Anti-bullying week and much more!

Evening everyone, I hope you've had a great weekend and are ready for another week in Year 1!

As always, the children have amazed me this week and I am feeling so much pride in being able to teach your incredible children.

Tomorrow marks the beginning of our anti-bullying week and we are encouraging children to wear odd socks tomorrow to mark the start. Our November Numeracy challenge also starts this week. All children should have come home with their Mathletics log in cards on Friday. Also just a reminder that the shoe box appeal is due on the 19th, so please bring these in if you are taking part in this amazing cause. On Friday we also have children in need! On this day we will be having a non-school uniform day with the theme as spotty or sporty! We will also be hosting a bake sale so please bring in any baked goods on Friday if you want to take part in this. Also, please can we have sponsorship forms back this week! There will be goodies on sale at the office as well if you would like to purchase these.

We have been so busy in the Year 1 classroom as I'm sure the children have told you. We are continuing with learning about the weather and different climates. This week we will be learning about climate change and how we can protect the earth we live on. In Power Maths we have been looking at addition and subtraction within 10, this will be continuing this week. In Science we have started to explore the different seasons and went on a lovely Autumn walk around the school grounds to spot the signs of Autumn.

It is our class assembly on the 26th November. This is a very random ask.....but if you have any recycling at home that could be used to create something please could you bring this in over the next week. All will be revealed at the class assembly. Words will be coming home this week, please could you read through these with the children to ensure they are confident to say their lines!

As always, if you have any questions or queries, please email me or catch me at the beginning or end of the day!

Thank you for your continued support!

What a great start to the second half term in Year 1!

Hi everyone, I hope you are all well and had a lovely half term!

We have had the most amazing start back into the second term of Year 1. The children have come back with such amazing attitudes towards learning and are showing such great behaviours. We are all so incredibly proud of them all.

We have started a new topic this half term which is Climate! The children have started to show such enthusiasm towards this already and have started to learn about the different types of weathers and seasons.

In Maths we have started a new unit which is addition and subtraction within 10. This is involving using lots of resources and exploring different ways to work answers out.  In Literacy we have been using adjectives to describe weather and writing senses poems about Autumn. The children also took on the role of a weather presenter and presented the forecast for the day to the class!

On Monday we were lucky enough to have the puzzle company in to do some problem solving and reasoning activities. The children worked so well in a team and communicated effectively. We also supported COP26 on Monday by learning about climate change and how we can protect the earth we live on. We made promises on the back of leaves in which we are willing to keep to help fight climate change.

In Jigsaw we have started to look at celebrating difference and the similarities between us. We have also started to talking about how differences make us special! We have also started to learn about different ball skills in PE which started with learning about and practicing a chest pass.

Home learning books will come home tomorrow as well as their new RWI books. Please make sure these come back in the following week.

As always, if you have any questions please feel free to catch me in the morning or after school, or send me an email.

Thank you for your continued support!

I'm back!

Hi everyone, I am happy to announce that I have access to the blog again! Sorry that I haven't been able to update you all, I also haven't been well so updating was harder. However, it's so amazing to be back teaching your children. They have been and are INCREDIBLE!! Thank you also to the support and kind messages I've had whilst being off ill.

I cannot believe we are 3 days away from half term. I'm not sure if you feel the same but this half term has FLOWN by. How each and every one of your children has adapted and settled into year 1 has made me such a proud teacher.

I haven't been able to update the blog since we have been to the zoo but WOW! What an amazing trip we had. The children represented POW in the best way possible and I was bursting with pride. I'm sure you have heard all about it and all the amazing animals we have seen.

Just a few notices and reminders to finish this blog;
1- We are a nut free school! Please check all snacks that you send in with your children. We have had to send lots of snacks home as they contain nuts. It's so important that you check due to allergies we have in the class.
2 - We are missing lots of RWI books that we have sent home. Please have a look at home and send them in with your children before we break up for half term.

Thank you as always for your continued support!

Food, faith and farming fornight!

Hi everyone!
Today has been the start of our food, faith and farming fortnight! I hope you all got to see the tractor outside of the school today!!

I want to firstly update you on the last week in Year 1 and then a couple of notices about the coming fortnight.

Again, we have had a super busy week in Year 1 and all children have just BLOWN me away. Every week I am getting to know your children more and we are now feeling like a tight knit Year 1 POW family. We have been continuing to look at our numbers to 10 and have started to compare numbers and groups of objects. We have put our explorer hats on and accessed the Forest School area. There were lots of fairies and even dinosaur bones found!

In PE we have been exploring different movements and how our bodies can adjust/move to help us. The children are continuing to enjoy music with Mrs Bishop and have been using a range of instruments. We have also learnt how to log into the chromebooks and access purple mash. We have been continuing to focus on our handwriting!

We also had a great surprise as we were able to take part in an African dance workshop with a special visitor! Your children really do have the moves!!

Now for a few notices;
- We are off to Maiden Castle Farm tomorrow so please can you ensure all children have suitable footwear (I know most of your children have wellies in school) and suitable coats as it is meant to rain! If you want children to wear different trousers, this is fine, however they must wear their POW tops.
- Thank you to those who sent the home learning books in today. Coming home with the children is this week's task which focuses on numbers to 10. Please can these books come back in on Thursday or Friday at the latest.
- RWI books are also due in on Friday. We have had some children not bringing these back and it's really important that they do. If you have any at home please can you send them in with your children tomorrow.
- We are learning songs for the Harvest Festival - words will be coming home if you could look at these with your children and access the song on youtube - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1o6xWL6srtY
- All children also came home with their RWI sounds on Friday. Please practice these as much as possible at home to support learning in the classroom.

Thank you once again for all your amazing continued support!

Update on home learning books

Hi all,

I've had a few questions about home learning books and whether they were due in today. In normal circumstances we ask for them to come back to school on a Thursday, to ensure we have time to get the new home learning task in the book for sending home on Friday.

HOWEVER, this weeks home learning is due on Monday as we only handed the books out on Tuesday! I've really enjoyed looking at the home learning that has already come in, thank you!

Any questions, please let me know,

Miss White

Last week in Year 1

Hi everyone, sorry I haven't updated this sooner I have been a bit poorly. From now on, I will be making sure I am updating these more frequently and on time!

What a start to Year 1 we have had. I know I said this last week but I am so proud of each and every one of your children! They are amazing!

We have been so busy in Year 1 with lots of incredible learning happening.

In Literacy we have been focusing on the book 'Dear Zoo' by Rod Campbell. We have been using adjectives to describe different animals and started writing a letter to the zoo to ask for our favourite animal.

In Maths we have been focusing on our numbers to 10 - looking at counting forwards and backwards and adding one more. The children are fantastic at their numbers to 10 and we also had a maths lesson in the forest school area where we were collecting objects in 10's. Such as 10 leaves, 10 sticks and 10 other things they could find.

The children are also working incredibly hard to learn how to form their numbers and letters correctly. We have a weekly session which focuses on handwriting and letter formation. Two morning jobs a week also focus on correct letter formation and number formation.

In Science we have been continuing to explore animals including humans and looking more in depth at the different animal groups. The children enjoyed going on a hunt around the school to find animals and deciding which animal group it fits into. We were also lucky enough to meet two amazing tortoises that Mrs Thorpe brought into school!

The children have really been enjoying their Music lessons with Mrs Bishop and PE sessions with Luca (basketball coach) and Sean (cricket coach). In Art we have been exploring different ways to create animals using a range of resources such as leaves in today's lesson. In RE we have been learning about the Christianity Creation Story. In Jigsaw (PSHE) we have welcomed Jigsaw Jack into the classroom and spoke about how we feel safe and special.

Just a few extra notices;
- Some children are still not bringing in their PE kits. Please can we ensure these are coming in.
- Some jumper/cardigans are not named which makes it a lot harder if these are misplaced. Please can we check that all school uniform is named.
- Home learning books will be coming home tomorrow. These were meant to come home Friday but other things got in the way....

Thank you for all your amazing support as always!
