The busiest week ever in Year One

Hi Year One Families,

What a wonderful week we’ve had in Year One!

On Monday we had a brilliant time meeting Isabella's pigs as part of our assembly.

On Tuesday, we went on a fantastic trip to Maiden Castle Farm. The children loved meeting the cows and pigs and learning all  about hay and straw are produced. In the afternoon, we continued our Food, Faith and Farming Fortnight with a brilliant session all about Judaism.

On Wednesday, excitement filled the classroom as Zoo Lab came to visit! The children were fascinated by the range of creatures we got to meet — from insects to reptiles and even amphibians.

On Thursday, we really enjoy our learning about World Vision day and everyone showed great bravery during the flu immunisations  Afterwards, we channelled our focus into English, writing letters to Astrid from Astro Girl. We even learnt what “P.S.” means when you write a letter.

To finish the week, on Friday we welcomed the Dorset and Wiltshire Fire Service for a very interesting session on fire safety at home. The children listened so well and had lots of thoughtful questions.

A quick reminder — it’s our Harvest Assembly on Friday. The children have learnt some fantastic songs and can’t wait to perform for you. After the assembly, please join us in class to taste our delicious smoothies that we designed and made as part of our DT learning.

It’s been a busy, joyful week of learning — we’re so proud of how engaged and curious the children have been!

Please do get in touch if you have anything you wish to discuss.

A busy week in Year one

Hi Year one Families

It’s been another exciting week in Year One.

In English, we’ve been exploring our class book Astro Girl and using it to inspire our own sentences. The children have been learning how to include adjectives, imperative verbs, and nouns to make their writing more descriptive and engaging we’ve been so impressed with their imaginative ideas!

In Geography, we’ve travelled (virtually!) all the way to Oceania, discovering fascinating facts about this unique continent and the amazing animals and landscapes found there.

During DT, we practised our fruit slicing skills in preparation for making our very own smoothies in a few weeks, there were lots of careful cutters in action!

We’ve also really enjoyed spending time playing outside, making the most of our resources and showing great teamwork and creativity in our purposeful play.

Next week is set to be a very busy and exciting one!

  • On Tuesday, we’re visiting the farm – please remember wellies, suitable clothing, and a change of clothes.

  • On Tuesday afternoon, we’ll also have a special input on Judaism.

  • On Wednesday, Zoo Lab will be visiting to support our Science learning.

  • And on Friday, we’ll be joined by the Fire Service for a fun and informative session!

We can’t wait for all the wonderful learning and experiences ahead!

Please remember that Reading Records should be returned daily and please label water bottles and school uniform.

Please do get in touch if you have anything you would like to discuss.

Ms Evans and the Year One Team.
