Week 6 in Year One

 Hello Year One Families

In Forest School this week the children learnt how to start a fire using flint. They also made dens and then got to cook some cinnamon apples on the fire. They absolutely love these sessions and get so much out of learning outdoors.

This week the children have made the most wonderful animal habitats using the bricks. The children have been playing and exploring with building these for a while now but this week they seemed to really take it to a new level. Great problem solving and sharing of ideas.

In geography Miss Knight taught the children about Antarctica. They learnt about what the climate is like, which animals live there and who might stay there. The children loved the linked activities in continuous provision too.

In science the children learnt about vertebrates and invertebrates. We worked together to discover which animals had a back bone and which didn't.

To round off the week, in maths, the children learnt about number lines. The children worked together to make a big number line, thinking carefully about what they have learnt in maths over this unit: more than, less than and comparing numbers.

Another wonderful week in the Year One classroom!

I am looking forward to meeting you all in person next week at parent's evening. If you have not had a chance to sign up please do it as soon as possible. Or if you are having technical problems, please see Miss Lewis or Mrs Troughton in the school office.

See you all next week.

The Year One Team
Mrs March, Miss Johnson, Miss  Knight, Ms Dainton, Mrs Briant, Mrs Cleaver and Mrs Brooker.
