Y1 5.9.16 - A brilliant start to the school year!

Welcome to Year 1! The children worked extremely hard today and settled quickly in to the routine of Year 1. There were many tired faces at the end of the day, which is to be expected after having six weeks off!

Today the children wrote about something that they enjoyed doing in the holidays. This gave us the chance to see their writing and talk to them about the exciting things they have been up to.

After lunch the children had their first PE session with Mrs Hall. If your child hasn't got their PE kit in school please can we have this in the morning as we have PE with Mr Treble.

I hope that you all had a chance to see your child’s morning group. These are based around the seasons Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter. Their tables will be the same every morning. We encourage the children to help to put their things away and then settle down to their morning activity.

It is fantastic to hear that so many of you have got your Forest School clothes in already this week. Forest School will start on Monday afternoon next week and will run until the half term (6 weeks). Autumn and Winter group will be doing Forest School first. Spring and Summer will be doing PE with Mrs Hall and then after the half term the groups will swap.

You will be receiving a newsletter at the end of next week but in the mean time I will be holding a parent information session on Tuesday (13th) in the hall from 9am where I will go through the Y1 curriculum, routine and answer any queries you might have. If you have any questions before hand please do come and see me.

Finally your child will be bringing home a reading log. This is a new book which enables you at home and us at school to record what the children are reading and share these experiences. Your child will also be getting two books from the library this week and one group reading book.

Sorry for the extremely long blog!

Mrs Thorpe and the Year 1 team
