What we have done this week!

This week the children have been working hard exploring more about Space! We have has some amazing poets in year 1 creating acrostic and shape poems. Can your child remember theirs?

In Literacy we also completed a book review. The children chose between Chris Hadfield’s ‘The Darkest Dark’ and a book about Tim Peake called ‘Goodnight Spaceman’. They had to state why they liked the book as well as rate it out of 5. Which did your child prefer and why?

In Numeracy, we have continued measuring in cm and beginning to look at metres using rulers, tape measures and metre sticks. The children were throwing bean bags and measuring the distance travelled as well as measuring the width of tress in the playground. Can your child remember how to tell the age of a tree?

In Art this week the children drew a portrait of an explorer we have been learning about; Tim Peake, Chris Hadfield, Christopher Columbus and Suzie Imber. We looked at proportion and which features are best to start with as well as selecting colours for eyes and hair.  Ask your child who Suzie Imber is?

In Music we have learned a new song about Neil Armstrong and Christopher Columbus! We have also continued to look at pitch and used a glockenspiel to illustrate a scale going up and down. The children worked in groups to make their own scales…. They worked very well as a team.

We didn’t have a praise assembly this week, so we praised the children in the class. This week we would like to praise:

Charlie Bi and Dimitra for their super group reading.

Harry and Lily for their amazing writing about why astronauts need spacesuits and helmets.

Toby for his attitude to work this week.

This week’s class Dojo went to Arlo – for noticing the right choices.

Another super week in Year 1!

Have a lovely weekend! I can’t wait for Science week next week and the fantastic things we have planned!

Reminder: if anyone has a praise trophy from last half term, please could they be returned ASAP for next week's assembly. Many thanks.
