Hello Year One families
In English we have read to the end of our story 'The Comet'. The children loved finally getting to the end of the story and finding out that Nyla would be happy in her new home. You can watch the story together here:

The children have spent the week writing how Nyla feels about moving home and we even managed a bit of hot-seating where the children became Nyla and answered questions. The children's writing skills go from strength to strength and many are writing excellent independent sentences using full stops, capital letters, finger spaces, adjectives and the conjunction 'and'. There's so much to learn when you become a writer!
In maths we have just moved on to a new unit of Numbers to 50. The children are beginning to learn the composition of the numbers to 50 e.g 35 is made of 3 tens and 5 ones. They are also learning to say and write numbers to and from 50. We will be practicing counting back from 50 next week as this was a bit tricky, especially as we moved from the numbers ending in 0 down e.g from 40 to 39, 30 to 29 etc. You can practice at home using this video:

In science the children worked in teams to describe a season and what was good about it. They then shared their ideas with the rest of the class. It was lovely to see how confident the children are in front of one another.
The week ahead:
