Week 4 in Y1

Hello Year One Families

We begin with a big thank you to Miss White who taught the Year One class today. The children loved their art lesson where they reimagined the art work of Alma Thomas using spring colours and painting techniques.

They also thoroughly enjoyed their superhero, comic relief inspired dancing! The children learnt a dance, then made up their own in groups to show to the rest of the class.

The children are really enjoying our new story 'Stanley's Stick' by John Hegley. They have produced some great writing about what Stanley might do with his stick this week. This led nicely into our forest school learning where the children got to make their own colouring pencil stick using a potato peeler to peel off the bark into a point. These will be coming home with the children next week.

The children have come to the end of their unit of learning about numbers to 50. They worked practically this week to represent different numbers to 50 using deines (tens and ones), writing the number, drawing the number and writing it into a part part whole model. They are gaining a really good understanding of how numbers are made up of ten and ones. Next week we move on to length and height.

In geography we have been learning about maps and a birds eye view. After having a look on Google Maps and learning about symbols, the children created their own class map. They were so engrossed in this and created a wonderful map together.

Next week:

On Tuesday afternoon from 1.30pm - 3.30pm we will be visiting Maiden Castle Farm for lambing. If you would like to help on this trip then please do let us know.

Have a good weekend and see you all on Monday.
